Why are we supposed to know the hundreds of thousands of weird non-binary gender intersections? Like, does anyone know about them outside of tumblr? I'm not trans, I don't know what it's like to be trans, so I can't really say anything. If people identify with a certain gender identity then that's how they are and I can't change that. I bet you could interview like 100 people on the street and only one or two would know about this People are not offended because people are ignorant but because their ignorance apparently give them a free pass to be rude and dismiss someone's identity bec "it's ridiculous" and there is"only two sexes". And I think ignorance is not a bad word in that case, if you have never read any studies regarding gender, and its social construct and you confuse gender and biological sex, yes you will sound ignorant, it's not your fault, but it's also up to you to educate yourself before opening your mouth and saying things that actually are not even true. Also tumblr is a media of expression but there are universities and scholars that have done research on that, real work so no it's just about thinking today i am a banana but recognizing that the way gender is constructed doesn't fit always one's identity. there is a difference between feeling an identity as a core and it being actually a core, people confuse that. And you can find many non binary people in real life. I know I don't identify as one, yet I met many. They don't make it a big deal, they just specify the pronoun they prefer and that's it. Also I recommend you the movie laurence anyways, the main character has this quote at beginning of the movie "I am looking for a person who understands my language and speaks it. A person who, without being a pariah, will question not only the rights and the value of the marginalized, but also the rights and value of the people that claim to be normal." plus it's a great film!
