But honestly I'm all for people finding their gender identity and finding others like that, but with 37 combinations, good luck finding one. Am I genderfluid because I wear makeup and skirts sometimes? Legit question because I'm not sure and people know about this here. paul 687 Posted November 17, 2016 Share Posted November 17, 2016 I agree with the general message of what they're trying to do, which is make everyone feel accepted in the app. I think it would make far more sense to market this as "Tinder updates its gender options to accommodate everyone". For my thoughts on gender vs sex, I think there's male, female and nonbinary, where the latter catches all that do not fall into the first two. There is no need for ten million subdivisions, or getting rid of M/F, because it's biology. I encourage everyone to be who they want to be, but we don't need to be creating new labels like clockwork. That being said, two things (and I'm trying to be brief so what I'm saying may not encapsulate every detail): 1) Since we are still using the binary of man/woman; male/female...I'd suggest a general shift of the mind, body and spirit towards androgyny (which is kind of a synthesis of that binary). It seems kind of impossible to radically break away from it without becoming a hot mess (which would be okay too but people unfortunately like labels so why not shift towards androgynous identities? Or a general "queer-ness"? Or fluidity/flexibility?) 2) While it is awesome that social media has finally jumped on these identities--it seems to fall flat. What "real world" impact does it truly have aside from one's online presentation of the self? And, of course, these capitalist companies are out for that "Money Honey" so their intention seems a bit inauthentic/disingenuous to me. Anyway, just wanted to share my take. Have a great day, GGD!
