His entire MESSAGE and CAMPAIGN was about racial resentment and anger white America is feeling right now as a result of progress in equality and civil rights which has resulted in an increased competition in many areas including the labor market.

Now, instead of white people only having to worry about competing against themselves, they have to compete with others as well. That sets you up for more white people getting "left out". I mean welcome to the experience of minorities and people of color who were not able to participate and do certain things, and were left out for pretty much all of US history. Talk about white entitlement.

This is not even mentioning the automation of industry which has caused catastrophic job loss and which is not going to  be coming back no matter how much  people think it can come back. Yes, some of it can if jobs are brought back from overseas, but due to automation it will never be on the same level as it once was.

His message tapped into the anger and resentment some white people have for not fully getting to mask in their white privilege glory. It's beginning to be dismantled, and these white people are feeling threatened by it. Enter Trump and the symbolization he has for these white people, and the meaning behind "Make America great again" becomes all too clear: make America unequal again, where white

 

 

i've already covered the impact of the media on people's perceptions. he has said certain things that i find annoying, but overall it's an exaggeration. of course he's said some stupid soundbites, and even suggested a few ridiculous concepts.

i didn't vote for him.

You didn't even read or likely even have the means to comprehend what I wrote, and the speed at which you wrote this baseless, inaccurate comment is proof of that. It's literally not even up for debate, you're wrong and you know it. May as well accept it. Trump will continue to get all the criticism that he asked for and which he deserves.

 

And the demonstrations against him will only get larger and larger. People aren't having him and his xenophobic, white supremacist views.

The perception if him is from his own words. He insulted multiple minority groups on multiple occasions and championed policies that are discriminatory and will be moving us backwards. Everyone isn't imagining these issues...they are paying attention to what he has said repeatedly throughout the campaign.

I literally loathe the way in which you PC nazis use the PC term as a way of trying to silence, discredit and undermine honest discussions about the ways in which race, gender, sexuality, and class operate in our society. Maybe you aren't willing to speak openly and honestly about systemic and institutional racism, sexism, and heteronormativity in this country, but a large majority of us are, and we won't rest until the day when they are all dismantled.

good, they can rally all they want. i love what they're demonstrating. the media has built trump as representing a terrible, horrible thing, who represents homophobia, xenophobia, etc. so they can demonstrate all they want, because they are protesting that IDEA.

trump has been very, very clear when he explains any statement that gets run in the media, but does the media run those explanations? no. there is media bias going on just like the conservative media focused on hillary's e-mails, and the FBI suddenly started investigating the e-mails again a week before the election, and they just happened to be on ANTHONY WEINER'S computer who was simultaneously sexting 15 year old girls.

no party is perfect, just like the conservative media planted all of the trouble with the e-mails and filled the minds of the conservatives with that nonsense, the liberal media supplied the narrative on trump, and it was easy because they were in part, CORRECT!

but they took it to EXTREMES.

most of the statements were just soundbites, or irrelevant crude jokes. MOST.

if the media hadn't played that up constantly, then that would be considered just the way he talks. he has stated explicitly his policies, expectations, and intentions, which is widely ignored.

i heard the same 2 second soundbite for 5 months, and the way the media spun it, it was like he had said that soundbite for the entire 5 months rather than 2 seconds.

but, to sum it all up, no. the protestors should continue protesting. i support what idea they're protesting.

no. i am having a discussion without insulting anyone in any way. whenever someone replaces a discussion with an insult, like you did earlier, i prefer to just stop the discussion.

You do make some good points and thoughts here.

I guess I can see where you are coming from in part as perhaps there has been some exaggeration on part of the media, but not for due cause. His hateful rhetoric has not exactly been good and healthy for our nation

I mean come on... David Duke wasn't gleefully boasting about how his ideas have gone mainstream and how Trump talks about things he has been saying for decades because he gets all his information from the liberal media and got confused. The number of neo-nazi ultra-nationalist factions supporting Trump are not doing so because they heard he was racist on MSNBC. Trump supporters where not yelling "JEW-S-A!" at reporters, saying black people were better off as slaves, saying they have no respect for muslims and buying merchandise like "Trump That Bitch!" and "Hillary sucks! But not as much as Monica!" Because they were watching CNN and mistakenly thought Trump shared those values.
