I refuse to believe the majority of Americans can't understand a level of logic that's been common in other parts of the world for many years. Trump has to be just a terrible bump on the road. Once the DNC figures their **** out, sane and reasonable people will come together and rebuild.

If a miracle like a democrat run house and senate happens, you're already more than halfway there. If these politicians are careful and present their bill without scaring republican voters to protest / riot, I don't see what can stop them.

Oh, you're too optimistic :rip:

The day they even hint at wanting to create this type of legislation Republicans will scream that Democrats want to take away our 1st amendment rights.

Our politicians are a bunch of clowns.

Most Americans do agree on gun regulation as shown by polls. But our politicians influenced by special interests/lobbyists (groups like NRA) stop any progress.

I mean, hate speech is kind of illegal if it falls under the category of "fighting words", at least in the US that's the case :neyde:

I can see why she is still so upset but she needs to move on at this point. What happened happened, we can only hope for the best right now. And doesn't she have a song to promote anyways? :saladga:

Gaga specified exactly what she meant. Did you not read her actual tweet? She specifically referred to hate-speech, not just something that hurts people's feelings. She specifically stated that this referred to those who were the final candidates for the Presidency. That's two people out of 340 million.

A person who speaks up against racism and bigotry or a celebrity that uses their position as a platform to do so, is the very opposite of being a "weakling".

No one has the right to take away anyone's freedom to speak, whether its hate speech or not.

Well, the government doesn't.

However, that doesn't mean there won't be consequences in both the private and public sector. As we have seen, you can get banned, fired of suspended for speaking your mind. There are rules and guidelines in everything from online forums to education systems to businesses. Also, there are some restrictions on free speech, even within our government.

So, you're statement is pretty much innacurate.

Also, you didn't address anything I said in my original comment.

It is unfortunate people are punished for speaking their mind. But, alas, this is the society we've become. And yes, actually, I did address what you said originally by responding how I did before. Of course, you've got your head too far up your own butt to acknowledge anything other than what you want to see :toofunny:

No, it's not unfortunate. There are guidelines in the public and private sector and consequences for crossing those guidelines. I wouldn't want to be on this forum, if people were allowed to spew hate speech nonstop.

In the Presidency, there are expectations of decency and fairness. When those lines are grossly crossed, you see what we are seeing now with minorities feeling marginalized and discriminated against...and you see bigots feeling emboldened in their message of racism and discrimination.

And no, your statement did not address the fact that you accused Gaga of something she never said. You ignored the very specific circumstances she referred to in her tweet.

Her tweet said I wish hate speech was illegal which I said I disagreed with. You're the one who is ignoring facts, as usual.

Her tweet said that she wished hate speech was illegal for the final candidates, who are campaigning for presidency.  You ignored that fact.

No I goddamn did not. I STILL DISAGREE regardless of who she's talking about

Yes, you did. But at least, you have finally acknowledged that she was only referring to two people every four years.

However, you believe that anyone should be able to say anything on any medium at any time.

I don't know why you're trying to paint that as a bad thing?

Because that's not life in the public or private sector. There are guidelines and expectations and there are consequences and repercussions to crossing those lines.
