That our only solution. To try to make the worst seem better. Lord show us the way, please.

BadMetalRomance

I've been crying my eyes out too, I just don't see how America could mess up this much. Hillary deserved so much better and these morons had to go screw it all up and give us Trump. I honestly don't know how to react.

You are very good with words, this is exactly my point I am trying to make. Yes it is the story of her career. She talks about her "original moments" and how she's doing what no ones else is doing but her actions speak louder than words, it feels so empty to me. When she shouted "black lives matter" I threw my head in my hands and was cringing.  Also her with the "love trumps hate" sign. I just did not feel real, if it did I wouldn't have a problems, the crux of it all is, she is trying so hard to been seen as an icon. I can never imagine Britney doing this. When you look at it, that's all Gaga is , another singer like Britney, Gaga is no better, she might be a better vocalist but that's as far as it goes, Gaga has let this go to her head big time, she really isn't that important or influential, obviously.

I just read through this thread, and in regards to your overall argument of Gaga doing this for the sake of being an icon, I respectfully disagree. I will say, however, that the following is just my opinion. I think that Gaga just suffers from the flaw of not being perfect. No one is, nor should they be expected to be. Now in regards to her politics, I think that Gaga becomes passionate about issues when she has the luxury to be passionate about them. Or, rather, she becomes passionate and speaks out about issues when it suits her best. I think this, because I do this as well. She's an affluent white woman. She doesn't naturally think about the issues of things like racism or Islamophobia, firsthand. She might get to hear about it through friends or fans, or see it for herself, but she doesn't truly experience them. That doesn't mean she can't care about these things. And the fact that she is famous means that her voice will be heard more than the average person. If you look at it like that, it almost seems like it should be imperative for someone with that opportunity to speak out about how they, and the people they've spoken to, feel. But then, at what point do they step down from the proverbial soapbox and go back to doing what they normally do? After all, they can't spend all their time lobbying.

Joanne has been released for a few weeks and she's not working on any new projects at the exact moment, so this is the time when she has the opportunity to speak out. And besides, she has an interest in politics, but that's not her career. Does that mean she shouldn't be allowed to talk about her views, or encourage others to look at it the way she does? If she truly felt that Trump will damage our society in any way, wouldn't she be irresponsible for not trying to get others to vote for Hillary.

But that's not exactly what we're talking about her in this thread. She posted a picture of her protesting Trump after he won. Personally, I don't feel that the picture of her on the truck is iconic. Not to say I don't love it or the fact that she is protesting. But she learned the results, and instead of getting drunk like I did, she went out and protested for what she felt was unjust. She has shown her support for Hillary for a long time (which I was upset about, because I was very much hoping for Bernie Sanders), I really doubt that this was a publicity stunt. I think she was actually upset. And I hate when people think she is some kind of fame *****, and only does things the sake of publicity or being iconic, especially when she could be hurting.

I love Gaga, not just because of her music and her performances, but for who she is as a person and what she tries to stand for. It truly pains me to see her hurt or upset. I die a little when I see her cry. It's no different than seeing my own mother or siblings in pain. Maybe she is faking it. Maybe it is disingenuous. But on the chance that she was being sincere, and I thought otherwise, I'd deeply regret. That may be naive but that's just how I feel. I can't speak for anyone else but myself of course.
