Is it wrong to not Vote?

I'm not interested in whether they legally should be required to vote, which is what some users here are discussing, but I do think that you have a moral obligation to be informed and vote.

You can complain about the two party system all you want (and frankly you probably should), you can complain about the system and about how both candidates are horrible, but the reality of the situation is this:

Either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump are going to be president. There is a world of differences between these two candidates and every American would be living in a vastly different country (and world) depending on which candidate wins.

The decision between Hillary and Trump has the potential to greatly affect foreign policy, world economics, hispanics, immigrants, muslims, POC, LGBT people, women, environmental policies/energy policies, world security and so many other issues.

If the 'Greater Evil' in this scenario gets elected and their policies are implemented and disaster strikes, the people who were complacent enough to refuse to prevent this evil are just as responsible as those who actively voted for it.

Regardless of what people might say, the vote against a candidate is just as valid and important as a vote for a candidate, so if you have major problems with both candidates then utilise your power to vote against the greatest threat. It's certainly far more important and effective than refusing to vote altogether.

Don't allow people to put you in guilt trip for it like some kind of high schoolers who do when you don't dress the same like they do and call you weirdo for it.

When you are not wanting to be want to be red or blue for whatever personal reasons you have, then don't.

It is both a right and a privilege. If you are too lazy or too uninvolved to vote, then I don't want to hear your complaints if you don't like the outcome. Also, people need to realize that in many parts of the world, people wish they had the privilege that you are completely taking for granted.

But you aren't just voting for the president. You're also voting for your local and state government which may affect you even greater. And don't forget when important votes were cast for marijuana and marriage equality referendums.

If you don't feel that you have enough information to make a sensible choice in a particular race, then you shouldn't vote in it. But if you know very well who you should choose, and you just can't be bothered to get to the polling place... then IMHO, that's wrong, yes.

Also, you should really make an effort to get enough information that you can make a sensible choice. Don't be lazy. But if you've honestly tried, and still can't decide, then don't. Picking at random is no help to anybody. (I'm always amazed to see people being interviewed, in line to vote, who say they're still undecided. Why are they there?)

It would've been ideal if the government didn't put the citizens in a position where they have to choose between two evils. No matter what you vote you're gonna complain for how the new President acts, so you may as well ply your right not to vote. Nonetheless you're gonna complain even more if the lesser evil didn't win, so you also might want to consider giving it a chance and look into what's more appealing to you.

But it's not about your personal feelings of being red or blue. It's about being an adult.

You don't vote for you. You vote for your country.

Also, there are many things you vote for that impact your local community.

It's mainly people being too lazy who don't vote. This "protest" voting is bullshit tbh.
