But people are not going to stop being ignorant and vote for them. That's a fact.

The Green Party and the Libertarians have very little support. It's impossible for them to win a general election with our current system.

If you were educated enough on politics you would know that statistics show that the Green Party needs way more than a few votes to even stand a chance.

If you want to vote Green then go and do it, it's your right and our choice. But that won't change the fact that they stand no chance and that your vote will make no difference in the system.

Stop saying "to stand a chance." This is about building a party that will work for us starting now that will be able to stand a chance. Now is the time because people are fed up. They CAN win, if people will vote, but because of people who think with the stubborn mentality that you are right now and because they fear what Trump"could do" and ignore what Hillary has done and will do, they are not going to. So getting them to five percent nationally is the goal. And because other people wont vote for them and they "can't win," that means that the people that actually support them and believe in their issues and platform, some of which have never been or voted Dem or Repub, shouldn't vote for them and instead vote against their own ideals and morals because people are ignorant and stupid? Yeah, that totally makes sense. Let's continue with the broken system that isn't working instead of creating an alternative route, because people are ignorant and stupid. That's totally how you make change happen. LOL. No thanks.

And to address your other comment - this is the year when they will make their rise. The Greens and Libertarians are polling at record numbers and will be a force to be reckoned with in future elections. The Democrats know that. Why else would they be trying so hard to guilt trip and shame 3rd party voters?

That's exactly what I am doing tomorrow morning!

What I'm doing is going into a voting booth, after much research and consideration, and voting for the most qualified candidate that most closely aligns with my values and a vision of a country that is moving forward.

I support your right to vote for who you think is best. But Hillary is just too evil for my consideration.

If the Democrats start LOSING because people are voting Green instead, the Democrats will be forced to change their ways and become more like the Greens, or even form a coalition.

Not really how it works, especially with such a low percentage of voters showing up to vote for the Green Party. That small percentage of outliers is going to be there, but it isn't going to impact future elections.

What is happening right now is that new groups are emerging as prominent in the Democratic Party...Latinos and college educated women. Since those two demos are showing up to vote in historic, convincing numbers, we can expect to see those populations courted by Democrats in down ballot races and in the 2020 Presidential election.

I disagree with your assessment completely, but the beauty of this country is that you have every right to voice that opinion and to vote according to how you feel.

Even if the Greens, Libertarians and other independents can scrape a few percent away from the Democrats, it will lose them elections, or even if it doesn't, it will seriously concern them. These things are often decided by a margin of under 5%.

The issue is that people do not know or understand that they have other legitimate options and the corporate news, who have a vested interest in the Dems and Repubs, purposefully keep voters ignorant to those other choices. Polls conducted by these sources are not at all accurate because they way undersample Independents (the largest voting bloc in the country) and 18-34 year olds while way over sampling older people and Dem and Repub identifying people. It's easy to get whatever numbers you want. I have seen numerous polls conducted by CNN that exclude 18-34 - like how difficult is it to find someone in that age group? Do not underestimate these outsiders in a time when Establishment politics is derided and Hillary is the epitome of it all.

These third parties also pull from Republicans and voters that are strictly third party voters. The two demos I mentioned are becoming the major voting block of the Democratic Party and their numbers are going to continue to increase. That's a much more logical and worthwhile strategy going forward than courting third ticket outlier voters.

But will they? Last time they only had less than 1% of the votes.

As long as the Democratic Party knows how to play their cards right and use te two Party system they will always be the only option for liberals and leftists who are realistic.

Actually, it's been shown that in a four way race, Gary Johnson and Jill Stein both pull votes away from Hillary. Barely any are scraped from Trump. That's why the Dems and the Clinton Camp are trying so hard to misinform people, scare them and guilt them into voting - because it can cause her to lose. The reason it barely affects Trump is because his voters are hardcore rightists and Independents that could never vote for Hillary or vote for some kind of liberal-like agenda that includes environmental stuff, same sex marriage, abortion, marijuana legalization, etc.

Yes let's vote for someone who is evil because we're bullied into doing so. Forcing the 2 party system is why our two candidates are beasts from hell. Vote for someone you believe in. Not someone you're forced to choose. That's not democracy.

Hillary is hardly a "beast from Hell"...

I seem to remember you (begrudgingly) supporting her a while back :chica:

The betrayal :chica:

Spoiler

Vote for who you want to though  I just figured priority #1 would be to stop Trump. We can do the whole "break the two party system" thing when there isn't an arrogant, destructive, authoritarian, fascist so close to gaining power...that's just my opinion though :flop:

Sure. You can keep daydreaming about this utopian country that doesn't exist.

America is not changing anytime soon. I mean Americans are still suing companies because they put too much ice in their drinks, so expecting a revolution in the system is quite unrealistic.

No one is trying to shame you for voting third party. Things are not about you, and I'm pretty sure no one really cares who you vote for.

Stop saying realistic - just the way you word that sounds extraordinarily condescending. Realistic is not a faux-progressive stance on the Climate Emergency we face while also soliciting and taking millions of dollars from the fossil fuel industry. Realistic is not getting us into war in Syria with nuclear armed Russia by trying to impose a no-fly zone. Realistic is knowing that continued drone strikes and bombings just creates more terrorism. The other parties are just as realistic as the Democratic party. Many rights this country has were brought to the forefront and fought for by third parties.
