It usually comes off as some pop girl who grew up in subrbia trying to gain "street credit" or seem "hardcore". Katy is the biggest offender that I can think of in this category. Same, I also mostly dislike it in reversal as well. I wish Eminem didn't do this so much, I truly think he's the greatest but because of his 'pop' career and that we are both white it's hard to argue with others that he is truly the greatest wordsmith in rap. Creating hits like Monster takes talent, but the hip hop world is so critical of the men in it, so it's best to stay away from that sadly. I also love Sia and the posts on her 'selling out' really bother me, but I also wish she would stop featuring rappers, her songs are actually much better without them. People seem to forget that going where the money is is what 99% of society does anyways, just because you are someone like Sia doesn't mean you are eliminating all your creativity and individualism by writing more simpler in your face pop songs, you are just creating a more stable future for yourself and creating music people love to dance to. I respect her for her talent, in singing and writing songs, and I hope she doesn't lose anymore respect from anyone else, she is truly gifted. And Jesus, I just went on a random tangent That's so true. I never thought about it, but it totally goes both ways. Maybe it is because rap and pop are so different that it is hard to combine them and create an authentic product that doesn't feel forced or like a marketing scheme. When I think of rap songs featuring pop artists, they feel diluted and weak, as though the pop artist strips away the credibility of the rapper. I used to be a big fan of Sia, but my love has kind of dwindled. I agree that she is very gifted as a vocalist and song writer, but her current sound just doesn't appeal to me anymore. I am still very happy for her and all the success she has achieved though. I think dropping the features would be a great improvement for her, as they just cheapen her music for me. Lol tangents are what make this place interesting Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet.
