It's mostly a hierarchy thing. A moderator's job is basically to warn posts that break the rules and to help tidy the forum by moving threads placed in the wrong section, locking threads that get out of hand and merging threads that have been posted multiple times. When you get invited to the moderating team you begin as a bronze moderator, as a bronze moderator you help with all the moderating duties except you can't search for people's I.P addresses in order to check for duplicate accounts and such.
