Resurrecting ARTPOP

I'm here to resurrect ARTPOP.

As hilarious as it is, it makes me sad to see these vines, memes, and other media poking fun at the album. I wanna know if there are other AP stans out there!!! Come out of the darkness! Share your thoughts on this album and what it means to you! I also wanna hear from people that were really disappointed by AP and still skip it when it comes on your music library... What was it missing artistically for you?

This all came to mind while my friends and I were discussing JOANNE.  My friend Alex posed the question, "Do we love JOANNE because it's Gaga and she can do no wrong in our eyes, or do we purely and honestly love JOANNE's sound?"

I immediately thought back to ARTPOP. When it was first released, I was thrilled to finally get my hands on it. But after my first listen, I felt a lot like lil' Britney above. Blogs were saying it was really polarizing and that only "super fans" would love it. I was a bit offended by this. I remember thinking, Am I not a super Gaga fan? She's queen! Why don't I like it?!

Fast forward 6 months and I started to really warm up to the record. Now, three years later, I can whole heartedly (and proudly) say that it is one of my all time favorite Gaga albums/eras. Songs like Mary Jane Holland, Aura, Sexxx Dreams, Donatella, Applause, Swine... fueled my creativity and made me feel sexy as hell!  While listening to it again last night, I went back and read the reviews, the blogs, the tweets...

Rolling Stone said, "Gaga wants us to believe the LP was inspired by Marina Abramović, Jeff Koons and Sandro Botticelli; at its best, it sounds like it was creatively directed by RuPaul, Dr. Ruth, and Beavis and Butt-Head."   Like, what?! "#ARTFLOP?!" I was heartbroken. I won't get into the album's chart position or compare its promo or sales to its predecessors because I'm honestly more interested in the record itself.

I'm truly inspired by AP and really love Gaga's vision. She called it her "Creative Rebellion." Like, UGH! Gaga was 26-27 when she wrote ARTPOP. I personally believe she was so focused on pushing Pop to the brink in order to sculpt something new, unique and avant-garde. I look at the album like one of Gaga's greatest paintings. When I hear ARTPOP and think of this Gaga era, I see a hot pink and purple Pollock/Picasso love child. This Picasso painting below (Girl Before A Mirror) also really reminds me of AP and Gaga and how she is constantly evolving. As an ambitious artist myself, this album just f****** speaks to me!!!

I love ARTPOP and hope there are others out there like me!

PS: #NEVERFORGET What are your fave AP era moments? Here are a few of mine:

Wouldn't be a Gaga fan if not for ARTPOP. Never have and never will understand the hate for it. Much better than so many pop albums out there (Dangerous Woman, PRISM, Bangers, Glory, etc.) Just goes to show that Gaga at here "lowest" is still brilliant.

AP isnt my fav album but it did help me channel a lot of my emotions. I was extremely creative during that point and I guess it healed me in a way BTW couldn't. It was loud and weird, I admired Gaga's bravery for making an album that you had to dig deep to understand and defending it. I always wondered how people hated it. How could you hate something that she created in pain and go through so much trouble for?

My fav AP moment was Dope at the YouTube awards and all the performances of Applause & Swine

ARTPOP is my favorite album of all time, i really love songs like " Sexx Dreams" " DWUW" "Donatela" "ARTPOP" " Mary Jane Holland" "Applause", but i always think she messed with the promo, she started saying the album was the new "Trhiller", the album of the decade and stuff, and then she promoted that badly, anyway , i like of ARTPOP that when you listen the songs, all of them feel like the first time and each song fully makes you fell what gaga was feeling at the moment of singing it ( when you hear swine, you can feel how gross was feeling Gaga, if you listen Mary Jane Holland you feel the drug making effect).

It's nice to see, i am not the only one that think ARTPOP isn't that bad album or the "flop" haters claim it to be.

PD: The applause performance is iconic.

I have so much love for ARTPOP, I dont think its her best but I also dont think comparison is always fair because all of her albums are sonically different. But, ARTPOP has been very inspiring to me creatively with a lot of its ideas, and its funny but one of my closest friends I met at college who studies music, is straight, non-stan, loves ARTPOP, it was one of the things that sparked our friendship. He really thinks the production is sharp and he thinks her concepts and lyrical philosophies are cohesive and interesting and irreverent and fun, etc. His favorites are Venus and Swine, and he told me once that he referenced the title track in a music theory discussion of David Bowie's Blackstar, saying that he saw similarities with the concept of "my ARTPOP could mean anything" and aims that Bowie has on his last album. Obviously I loved all of this. I love non-stan stans. But I think ARTPOP is so underrated and it has such a special place in my heart for so so so many reasons beyond this anecdote ive shared, and I love that this is what Gaga made in a period of hopelessness and addiction, I love that she was unhappy and channeling her music. I love that she is an artist that creates music based in her emotional evolutions. I love ARTOPOP and (obviously) I love Gaga.

ARTPOP is more fun than Joanne for me tbh :emma:

I loved ARTPOP when it came out and still do. I only dislike J&D. Its an amazing album and one of my favorites for sure! My favorite moments from the era are:

- VMAs performance (I was smiling when it premiered)

- GUY video (Released on my birthday, probably my fave Gaga video)

- Gaga singing Applause and New York mashup at SNL

- DWUW live at ARTPOPpremierePary and at AMAs

- ARTPOP song opening at artRave

- All the weird outfits, specially that black and white she used when she went to the Louvre

And thers probably a LOT of good moments I am forgetting

ARTPOP era was hella good! I loved it! It was perfect besides the singles/managing thing!

I love it so much and it hurts because even that it had moderable success it deserved much more!
