Yup, they replaced Venus with DWUW because of DWUW's initial success, but then DWUW didn't do as well as they thought wow does this sound familiar. 🌚

Not same thing imo. Million Reasons is better received by a wider audience. Plus a reason why ARTPOP and its singles didn't do well was because that era was a mess, the GP was put off by Gagas stunts and the video was plagued by issues by association with R.Kelly and Terry Richardson. Not to mention it never did get released. No reason to assume Million Reasons will have same fate.

That just shows us that Gaga doesn't just write a couple of "catchy" songs to be released as singles then the rest of the album be full of fillers. They obviously have a lot of songs in their hands and want to pick the best options. Judas was supposed to be Bad Romance 2.0 and wanted a "Gaga classic" so they went for it but it had some backlash, then released The Edge of Glory to test the waters, it obviously got massive and decided to release it as the third single. I mean, The Edge of Glory is one of her best songs, it was obviously going to be released at some point. I still think they should've pickedĀ Marry The Night or You and I after Born This Way.

Same with ARTPOP. Venus was a great single choice but they wanted to do the promo single and it had massive attention, so they went for that. I understand that they want to show what else is on the album but Do What U Want and The Edge of Glory are standout tracksĀ of each of the albums, I don't know why they thought they'd just be promo singles, those are better than MANY other popstars' lead singles.

The problem with Do What U Want and The Edge of Glory were the lack of organization. Both music videos had controversy and she ended up recording TEOG in a week just to meet a deadline, while the other got cancelled. That really messed up everything, not the single switch.

to be honest, for me PI is a Buzz Single.

Still the first single tho :)Ā But I know what you mean, it wasn't promoted.

Oh guys can we also mention that TFM also had a bad second single?

Ā

It may not have been switched but the album had better songs!

Yeah but like...you can't record a song with Beyoncé and then just pay it dust. That single just made her already high success soar even higher.

oh TFM...always makes me feel nostalgic.Ā :staymad:

it's not her it's interscope. -_-

THIS. Gaga can request, bring ideas to the table, etc., but when it comes to singles, Interscope will always have the final say in what will be released.

Artistry is what Gaga does; business is what Interscope does. If they think one song is going to make them more money over another song, they have every right to make the decision to release the more marketable song.

Gaga is an artist, but theĀ industry that she is in is a business through and through.

They all seem to have a common theme too. Judas, Venus and A-Yo are all songs she was passionate about and that she believed could be hits. TEOG, DWUW and MR are all easy hits that she can capitalize on, and she was passionate about them, but it increased as the GP began to pick up on them.

Well, "Judas" WAS released as a single tho. And it was a hit, not one of her greatest, but still a hit with over 3 million copies sold ww.Ā :firega:Ā "DWUW" was a smash, it became a huge hit with no video. I don't think "Venus" could have done better than it.Ā

Talking about "Joanne", releasing "Million Reasons" as the second single is best choice EVER, charts are speaking.Ā :whitney:

Honestly, changing the single from a-yo to MR was a very rushed decision, they were just so excited because the song went #1 in the US, but they didn't bother looking at the behaviour of the song in the charts (it left the #1 spot already)... it just hadĀ its momentum due to carpool karaoke success.... but i still think ayo was a safer bet

Million Reasons Is far safer than A-Yo.

It's almost winter and pushing a dancy track instead of a touching ballad would have beenĀ a terrible marketing decision.

Hair isĀ a crazy, badass song which deserved to be a single. Venus also had a lot of potential. A-YO would serve better as first single IMO. Now that we have MR and better songs/songs with bigger potential like DIC or JW, A-YO needs to go.Ā

Too bad we have to live through this mess during every album since 2011.Ā
