Letmelivemylife 8,715
I've always interpreted this song as a "I had a 100 million reasons to quit ( people who hurt her, lovers who screwed her over, people who just saw her as a money making machine, etc) but her monsters gave her a 100 million reasons to stay. I thought the video could be something like this. The video is in black and white. Gaga is in her pj's with her mascara smeared. It's obvious she's been crying. The walls are painted a cold sterile white. Nothing is on them to symbolize how she feels like there's no reason to keep on going. The camera pans to her packing up her things into moving boxes. As she's packing, the camera flashes back to everyone that has hurt her (whether it be men, people who tried to mold her into something she's not, etc). She packs the last box, tapes it shut, but then realizes she needs a marker to mark the contents of the box on it. As she comes back from retrieving the marker, a single fan letter gently flutters to the ground. She stops for a moment before bending down to pick it up. The camera pans away to reveal her skimming the letter, wiping tears away, obviously touched by what that fan has written. She looks up for a second and pauses, as if thinking of something very important. The camera pans back to reveal what she had been looking at. All 4 walls of the room are revealed to be covered in all of the gifts/letters we have given her. She just couldn't see them before because the pain of being hurt was too great. It dawns on her that if she were to quit, that would mean leaving her monsters. That very thought rips her heart out. We're as much a part of her as she is of us. She can't imagine life without us. She promised she would always be there to catch us when we fell and to quit would be breaking that promise. She tapes the letter that fell up to the wall, wipes a tear away, and gently whispers "how could I forget everything we've been through? I'll stay for you guys". As She grabs her "born this way" jacket and her "mother monster" necklace from the wall, the video turns from black and white to color to symbolize we're the light in her life and we mean the world to her. She slips her jacket and necklace on as a way to symbolize that nobody, not even the people who have hurt her, can destroy the bond she has with her monsters. As she begins unpacking the boxes (she's wearing her born this way jacket and mother monster necklace), the camera flashes back to all of the special moments she's had with her monsters (whether thats hugging us backstage or sending us pizza and goodies just because she loves us). We gave her a million reasons to stay when she had a million reasons to let go. I love you monsters. I'd be unfixably broken without you
