I leaned towards the direction that times in times of unsureness and politcal anger, people tend to escape in entertainment more aka bigger revenue for music/movies/other media. Well I'm no economist but I don't think both things are related, since a recession means people have less money to spend with frugal things such as entertainment, so they tend to direct more of their income to essential goods.
