Comparing the Numbers for 2nd single

There's been a lot of debate about what the 2nd single from "Joanne" should be. Why this is so important to a lot of fans is because we want the song to become big so we can show other people who arent big fans how great Gaga is and take pride in seeing casual listeners sing her songs and watch her amazing music videos. So Obviously the 2nd single is going to be "A-YO" or "Million Reasons", she played both songs on SNL, and both songs are discounted on iTunes to $0.69 cents in USA. She seems to be leaning more towards "A-YO" with the Apple promo but let's compare the songs first week numbers and see how the match up.

"Million Reasons" first week:

Peak on iTunes - #4

Youtube Views in 1 week - just under 9 million

Sales - over 15k sold

Spotify streams in 1 week - around 5 million

Billboard Hot 100 - #76 (the same as G.U.Y)

The song remained in the top 10 on itunes for days, and lingered in the top 40 for weeks now.

"A-YO" first week (we're about 6 days into it, was released tuesday)

Peak on iTunes - Mid 20's

Youtube views so far - almost 3 million

Spotify views - 2.2. million

The song remained in the iTunes chart lingering around the 40's & 50's all week.

Billboard Hot 100 chart is not out yet

but i think the verdict is clear, Million Reasons should be the next single. A-YO is fun but Million Reasons shows the softer side of GAGA that is resonating with the GP. Lots of kids are covering Million Reasons on youtube, i see lots of non Gaga stans always tweeting the lyrics, it's remaining in the top 40 on itunes even tho it's not been promoted. All it needs is a little push and I believe we have our first big hit on "Joanne" , then of course "Diamond Heart" will slay the charts around the Super Bowl.

Why do people think Diamond Heart is good single-material? :saladga:

I can't entirely agree with you. I feel like A-YO is more Grammyworthy than Million Reasons and the reason Million Reasons is doing better than A-YO is because it was released first, and had more hype because Perfect Illusion was the only song from Joanne that we got. As we know, the hype for an album diminishes after every song we get, which is why the lead single gets the most hype. So these numbers don't indicate a lot.

I would release them both honestly. Have a more ballad oriented song for country/adult radio and an up beat bop for the more pop radio.

But seriously, we can't look at numbers when tv promo literally just started. Remember this is her first televised performance of the era so it changes a lot on how the general public reacts. Her team will have to pay attention in the next coming days.

And release them both :classy:

I mean when Million Reasons was released all we had was PI and MR. When A-YO was released I was already jamming to the entire album.

It makes sense that MR would have more views.

well i feel like the second single doing so well is just the GP's general interest and curiosity in LG music after such a long absence (people testing the waters as it were). but by the third, that kind of interest wanes.
