"This is a song that’s been brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface," Perry said of "Rise" in a statement. "I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite,”

Katy said from the start that it wasn't a lead single or part of any album. It was supposed to be a stand alone single for the olympics.

Then she also performed it at the DNC which pissed off NBC because it was supposed to be an exclusive and they didn't want the song attached to any political party because politics gets controversial.

In any case, it wasn't supposed to be on any album.

I think she and her team tested the waters to see if she has the star power of beyonce to surprise release a song which will perform well commercially. She didn't, so I think they are going to rethink her promotion campaign and well whether we like it or not she's coming to slay commercially in 2017. :madge:. She's driven by commercial success even if it means being inauthentic with her craft.

A stand alone song with video and promo all over?

It wasn't upbeat enough to be a KP lead single - her team is more aware of what the public wants than Gaga is, get over it

That's the theory but honestly don't believe it. There were no markings on the single cover and no references in the video to suggest it.

It wasn't heavily promoted as that before it was released, so I think that was the casual flick off when it didn't do well commercially.

Wait it 1000% was always marketed as the Olympics promo single. Find me receipts if that's not true.

(I'm not even a katyCat but Jesus you guys have such a bias)

It sounds so strange considering I used to be anti-Katy during the ARTPOP era.. but these people have such an overwhelming bias it's insane how crazy they get when Gaga doesn't excel

Right ? They love to find excuses for whatever Gaga does but come hard for Katy just because she's more succesful. Petty and gay.

after Joanne got released she got sent back to the drawing board anyway... did u see she tweeted about "hitting the studio" and "2017 is gonna be lit" or whatever she said?

I like Katy, I like her lyrics (h8 me i don't care), I like her visuals, I like her fun attitude pop star fierceness... but this attitude, that is be coming more and more visible to the public... like, releasing Rise on the same day as Britney? I first was annoyed at her and her team using ARTPOP's ...downfall, to their advantage...

as soon as I heard "Birthday" on the radio, I was annoyed because I knew gaga was releasing a new video, and I said to my sister "if Katy releases this as a single I'll be so mad", and when she did.. ugh... I mean, I liked Prism, before all the promo, I bought the album etc. I like the music side of it.. but yeah her attitude towards promo and being a downright bitch... it gets to me.

Anyway that was longer than i expected bye

Always meant to be a stand alone release.

Katy's been writing and working in the studio all year, it seems judging by recent tweets that the album is shaping up really well. I'm so excited to hear new KP. She posted a snippet not too long ago and the beat was insane. She's gonna smash :excited2:

Do you actually believe that Joanne got Katy and Capitol shook? If anything they obviously felt relief that it's not a commercial album.  :ladyhaha:

As for Britney, well Make Me was planned to be released in May, subsequent delays meant it was released later and later.

As for Applause and Roar it was just bad timing. They were meant to be out on different days anyway but leaks happen. And if Katy is really trying to sabotage other releases it just shows her commercial power.

I actually do think she will be changing direction on KP4, and I think Capitol will make her, especially after Rise...

Yeah no I know the story about Applause & Roar, but I truly think Katy took advantage of Gaga's downfall, I mean, G.U.Y was released first, it had credits, right? The Birthday video, which was released afterwards, had credits... soz but no it's just too coincidental as a "slap in the face"

The irony being that I like Katy, and I even like Rise.
