LOL@ Interscopes PI decision - John Wayne & Dancin In Circles are hits

Even though it is a really good jam, I think dancin' in circle is a bit too sexual to be a single. PI is a good song, it's just too bad that GP likes crappy generic pop songs like Work or Closer. If Gaga is less popular, it's definitely because GP hates instruments and art in songs.

There's no way to know a song is going to explode on the radio or not, it just happens. ARTPOP had a lot of great potential lead singles but Applause was a good choice, just like Perfect Illusion right now. If not, Ayo would've been interesting.

I think AYO was the best lead single choice. It's catchy, a little surprising, and very good (but it the best on the album). Gag cleary loves it too, which helps. I still can't bring myself to think Dancin' in Circles would be a hit? Diamond Heart is clearly the standout song on the album. Electrifying, different, fresh and catchy.

Love Myself, Blurred Lines, LoveGame, Poker Face, Rude Boy, S&M, Anaconda, and several other successful songs with sexual content or obvious double entendres say hi.

I feel like we go through this discussion every era.

No, Scheisse or Judas shouldn't have been the lead single instead of Born This Way.

No, Venus or Gypsy shouldn't have been the lead single instead of Applause.

And no, there are no better lead single choices on the album than Perfect Illusion.

Our God has spoken, all of you stfu now.

EDIT: I agree with everything you said but you seriously think that Perfect Illusion was the best lead?

And Applause? nah...

Come on guys. The lead singles of Gaga's discography mean something more than the pretty bop that will introduce us to the era. Just Dance as a lead was palatable and painted a whole album about clubbing and dancing, perfect for The Fame. Born This Way paved a whole era of self acceptance and being out there even if it wasn't the best bop on the album. And with Perfect Illusion, I feel like she's making a statement. Firstly, she's rebranding herself so the song could also mean that the Gaga that we knew was an illusion. It gives us the idea that what she's going to be this era will be completely different, even moreso than her previous changes. I think it's fitting. What kind of message would she have been saying to us if Dancing in Circles or John Wayne was lead? That this album was gonna be sexual or that it's gonna be about bad men ala Lana Del Rey? No, Perfect Illusion is PERFECT. It might say the Gaga we knew was the illusion or the new Joanne IS the illusion. Ugh, I love it honestly.

Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

Wish Diamond Heart would have been the lead. It sounds different from Gaga without alienating her core fanbase.

It would have been interesting to hear PI as a non-single track.

Either way, I'm glad we finally have LG5

JOHNY WAYNE IS EVERYTHING.

Honestly, I don't think DIC should've been the lead. People would've criticized her for trying to fit in with the tropical sound on the radio or some other s***. It'll do well as the second or third single.

Perfect Illusion might not have hit, but it just feels right as the lead. I can see why they chose it.

It's a bad idea to release the best song on the album as the lead single, because then all singles that follow will not be as great. They need to build up to the best single, making it the second or third one. Take, for example, TF. Just Dance was the first single, but Poker Face (which is the best) was second, as to not make her a one-hit wonder. PI was a good lead single, it adjusts people into how the album will be like.

I'm glad they chose PI as first single
because I don't  want my favorite songs released as a single with zero promo:saladga:

In my opinion Diamond Heart would have been the best choice for the lead single. It is less "noisy" than Perfect Illusion and would resonate better with the GP.

I know this is discussed every era but this time seems different, definitely Perfect Illusion is the worst lead single that could had been chosen, and honestly, this era is already hurt because of it. She needed a bigger single, taking in consideration on how singles after the album is released usually underperform because everybody already has the songs.

Did Interscope really chose it tho? :oprah: When Gaga said that Interscope chose the single I felt that she made it up just to blame someone for its underperformance. :koons:

I wouldn't be in this dilemma if we knew that Gaga herself chose the single, beacause I would respect her decisions, lol. I find weird that they let her have so much freedom in the direction of her music but not letting her chose a single.

I still don't understand why people think Sexxx Dreams would have been a good lead single. It's an awesome song but would have TANKED as a lead single.

It was Gaga's idea actually. She said it was one of the choices. But I kind of understand why she said that. I mean, she's the one who created all of these songs, of course she loves all of them. Hell, she even said Jewels N' Drugs was her favorite song from ARTPOP at that time. She picks her favorites based on the mood she's in.

But yes, I never saw Sex Dreams as single material. Not when the album had Aura, Venus, GUY, Do What U Want and Gypsy in there.
