It isn't about pretending to be someone, it is about becoming the spirit of someone, and using that as a force to do good in the world through healing musically. It is beautiful, not creepy. Taking on the spirit of someone to embody a persona to get your feeling across, is the skill of many many performers, and certainly the skill of Lady Gaga. Gaga isn't asking you to call her Joanne her dead aunt, she considers herself Joanne as well. They pretty much share the same name. She is Joanne. Also I find it interesting when Gaga fans suddenly want to draw the line somewhere. I think you are going out of your way to find a negative thing when there's none 💀 Joanne's general concept IS NOT about her wanting to LITERALLY be her aunt, I mean you guys are something else It's about embracing and celebrating life fearlessly, to honor those who didn't had the chance. Joanne is her actual middle name, and she was obviously named that way in memory of her aunt, OF COURSE she feels connected to her, even though they couldn't meet. This, but also, I think it's about trying to learn what it's like to be someone else, making an attempt to figure out how they feel and how they see the world. It's the root of empathy. If you were Joanne and got another day to live, you wouldn't waste time on things that don't matter, nor would you take anything for granted. You'd spend that day with the people you love. I think it's also at the root of "Angel Down." Many people of "privilege" can't see why BLM is such an important thing, but if people just tried to understand what it's like to be a black individual and to see all these kids getting shot, they'd all see there's a problem in the US. Gaga definitely wants people to see what the world is like through her own experiences as well, to show that she is no different from most people. She has problems and things she cares about. Sorry for the essay; I just don't think it's a creepy concept at all. It's moving. Gaga's giving life to a woman who could've been completely lost to time. Now, many people know the name Joanne. It's all so dark -- it's why "#BecomeJoanne" is off-putting to me.
