when Internet's busiest music nerd :awkney: aka theneedledrop :awkney: aka Anthony Fantano first listened to PI he said it's very good, but then changed his mind towards the end of the track (the Illusion/Confusion part :oprah:)

but my question is: what's wrong with these lyrics, isn't it a good thing if the lyrics rhyme:duck:

he loved LEMONADE (who didn't? :lana:) but also criticized some of the lyrics (Like in Daddy Lessons: the "made me fight/ wasn't always right" :poot: part)

then when he reviewed Million Reasons he said it's excellent and there's nothing about it that he didn't like (but there are lyrics like: (worst seem better / worn out leather :classy::stalkga:

what do you think?

Over.

I feel like better and leather isn't that predictable : you don't expect her to start talking about leather. ( Although it has great meaning, she always picked these bad guys wearing leather )

Whereas barely anything rhymes with illusion : you're expecting her to have it rhyme with confusion. It feels less meaningful and somewhat more predictable.

I personally don't mind it tho!

he's just another person with an opinion.

Opinion I don't (and no one else should) care about.

Fantano is a great reviewer, even if I rarely agree with him. But I also think he has a tendency of being too nit-picky at times, and docking points for really minor things. This is one of those cases.

I wonder what he thinks of Sinner's Prayer. It sure as hell don't rhyme but it's as good as, good as, good as, good as gold.

It's not that he doesn't like the rhyme, it's just that confusion is such a predictable choice to use with illusion that you could see it coming a mile away so when it happens you can't help being disappointed. It's so predictable even Ma Ma Pa Pa Pa perfect illusion used it :emma:

Oh, I'm just visiting-

It's because it's such a predictable rhyme.

Let me remind you Mama Papapa Parfect Illusion used the same rhyme.

Holy **** it is predictable :udidnt:

I like the word switch up though, but indeed quite predictable.

The lyrics themselves arent bad but this part of the song just feels grating & unnecessary, along with the repetitive ending. To me it's unlistenable.

Infinity Wave

yeah that part is particularly cringeworthy... it's waaay to predictable

But I like rhymes nonetheless

It's a predictable line and doesn't add anything to the song.

Example of a predictable rhyme but good usage -

"You've been drinking like the world was gonna end
Took a shiner from the fist of your best friend"

Glory and Gore - Lorde

In the context of the song, although friend and end is one of the most cliche rhymes, it adds to the story of the song. Whilst a line like "it was a perfect illusion somewhere in all the confusion" is kind of fluff added to the song.

I think he's being a little hard over the lyrics there but I get his point.

I honestly don't care for his opinion ever since he said Amnesty (I) was a terrible album yet praises Crystal Castles and (II) to high heavens
