"Lady Gaga, auf dem Vorgänger-Album «ARTPOP» haben Sie sich stark an elektronischen Beats orientiert. Warum die Rückbesinnung auf traditionelle Instrumente?

Translation: Lady Gaga, your last album ARTPOP had electronic beats. Why going back to traditional instruments?

Lady Gaga: Wir wollten ganz sichergehen, dass die Melodien wirklich klassisch und gut werden. Erst danach haben wir weitere Produktionselemente hinzugefügt.

Lady Gaga: We wanted to be sure, that the melodies become classy. After that we added other production elements. 

Die erste Single «Perfect Illusion» ist eine wilde Disco-Pop-Nummer, ein echter Headbanger. Was war der Plan bei diesem Song, den Sie mit Mark Ronson produziert haben?

The first single "Perfect Illusion" is a wild disco-pop number, a real Headbanger. What was the plan with that song when you created it with Mark Ronson? 

Einen konkreten Plan hatten wir nicht. Wir haben einfach geschrieben, geschrieben, geschrieben, und zwar immer am Piano oder auf der Gitarre. Der Song hat für mich eine herausragende Energie. In dem Stück steckt so viel Kraft, so viel Ärger, so viel Wut.

We didnt had a direct plan. We just wrote, wrote wrote and always on the piano or guitar. The song has an amazing Energy. In the piece is a lot power and anger. 

Handelt der Song von der Trennung von Ihrem Verlobten Taylor Kinney? Richtet sich die Wut gegen ihn?

Is the Song about the divorce with Taylor Kinney? Is the Anger against him?

Nein, meine Wut richtet sich gegen niemanden. Ich bin MIT jemandem zusammen wütend. Gemeinsam toben wir gegen die verwirrenden, widersprüchlichen Gefühle, gegen die Stürme, die in uns wüten. Der Song ist keine Abrechnung! So ist er nicht gemeint. In «Perfect Illusion» steckt nicht die Spur von Hass oder von Rache oder dergleichen. Es geht einfach darum, was das Leben manchmal mit uns macht.

No, my anger is against no one. I am WITH someone angry. Together we bluster against crazy, paradox feeling, against storms who are in us. The song is not a payoff! It's not meant that way. In Perfect illusion is no trace of hate or revenge or something like that. It's more about what life is doing with us sometimes. 

Spielen wir nicht alle, und Sie als Popsängerin im Besonderen, mit den Illusionen?

Don't we all play, and especially you as a pop singer, with Illusions? 

Wenn ich mir anschaue, was die Menschen in den sozialen Medien, im Internet, treiben, dann möchte ich zustimmen. Du siehst fast nichts Wahres, Echtes, Authentisches mehr. Alles, was die Menschen von sich preisgeben, sind gefilterte Informationen. Wo findet man da die Wahrheit? Oder die Bilder in den Fernsehnachrichten? Sind die wirklich echt? Wir Menschen lassen uns halt auch sehr gern und leicht in die Irre leiten. Und letztlich sage ich in dem Song auch, dass es okay ist, wenn man sich getäuscht hat.

When I see what the humans do in social media, the internet, then i want to agree. You almost don't see anything true, real or authentic. Everything that human tell are filtered information. Where  can I find the truth? Or the picture in the TV? Are they really real? We let us easily lead into maniac. And as I say in the song. It's okay when you are illusionated.

Natürlich. Kaum jemand hat mehr Follower auf Twitter, kaum jemand wird stärker in den Medien beachtet als Sie.

Of course. Almost no one has more follower than you on twitter, almost no one gets paid more attention in the media and than you. 

Genau deshalb versuche ich, die Filter abzubauen. Lasst uns die Illusion vergessen und einfach aufrichtig miteinander umgehen, die Sonnenbrillen ablegen und uns in die Augen blicken.

Exaclty, thats why i try to build up filters. Let us forget the illusion and lets act wholehearted with each other. Put the sunglasses down and let us see each other in the eye. 

Auf dem Single-Cover von «Perfect Illusion» sehen Sie für Ihre Verhältnisse total natürlich aus. Sie springen in Jeans-Shorts und T-Shirt im Sand herum. Ist das Teil einer Art Image-Abrüstung? Immerhin sind Sie die Frau mit dem Fleischkleid?

On the cover of Perfect Illusion, you are looking for your conditions really normal. You are jumping in Jeans and shirts in sand. Is that part of your disarmament of your Image? I mean you are the woman in the meat dress.

Die Jeans-Shorts sind aus Metall und ganz schön hart und schwer. Aber trotzdem, Song, Fotos und Videos sollen kein grosses Mode-Statement von mir sein. Wichtig ist, dass mich die Menschen als leidenschaftlichen, wilden, vor Gefühlen überquellenden Menschen kennenlernen.

The Jeans Shorts are metal and really hard and heavy. But nevertheless, songs, photos and videos shouldn't be a big fashion statement of me. Important is that humans get to know me as a passionate, wild, and with feeling over flowed human. 

Sind Sie weniger Kunstprodukt als früher?

Are you less of an art product than earlier?

Sicher. Das sehe ich auch so. An diesem Punkt des Lebens befinde ich mich. Meine Mitstreiter auf diesem Album, Mark Ronson, Beck, Florence Welch, Father John Misty, bestärken mich darin. Das Musikalische steht im Zentrum. Ich lege auf dem neuen Album viel Augenmerk aufs Musikalische, damit fühle ich mich wahnsinnig wohl.

Sure, I see that the same. At this point of my life I am right now. My collaborations on this album, Mark Ronson, Beck, Florence welche, Father John Misty support me wit that. The music is in the center. I pay a lot attention to the music, and that makes me crazily happy. 

Wie haben Sie Ihre Kollaborationspartner ausgesucht?

How did you chose your collaboration partners? 

Meine Überlegungen sind von der lyrischen und melodischen Begabung dieser Künstler ausgegangen. Davon wollte ich profitieren. Beck zum Beispiel ist in meinen Augen der würdige Nachfolger von David Bowie. Ich verfolge ihn schon so lange. Jetzt mit ihm zu arbeiten und «Dancin’ In Circles» zu schreiben, das war für mich nicht nur eine euphorische Erfahrung, sondern hat auch mein Selbstwertgefühl enorm gehoben.

My Consideration root from the lyrical and melodic skills of those artists. Beck is the new David Bowie. I follow him for so long. Now I'm working and writing Daninc in Circles with hime. That was an euphoric experience and also increased my self esteem highly.

Wovon handelt der Song «Dancin’ In Circles»?

What is Dancing' in Circles about?

Es geht darum, vollkommen im Einklang mit seiner Einsamkeit zu sein.

Its about being totally in unison with loneliness.

Sind Sie gern einsam?

Do you like to be lonely?

Manchmal schon. Es ist auf jeden Fall möglich. Aber manchmal fühlt es sich auch schrecklich an.

Sometimes yes. Definitely possible. But sometimes it feels really lonely.

Sie sind immer von Leuten umgeben. Haben Sie überhaupt die Chance, einmal für sich zu sein?

Do you even have time with being on your own? You are always around people.

Doch, natürlich. Ich bin nicht rund um die Uhr in Gesellschaft. Und nur, weil du nicht allein bist, heisst das ja auch nicht, dass du nicht einsam sein kannst. Ich war schon in einem Raum mit hundert Menschen, mit 1000, mit 20 000, und ich habe mich tierisch einsam gefühlt.

Sure, of course! I'm not always in society. And also when your not alone it doesn't mean you can't be alone. I already been in a room with one hundred, with 1000 with 20000 and i still felt really lonely.

Ach, nicht zuletzt wegen dieser Barriere. Ich werde seit Jahren immer und überall erkannt, das schränkt meine Freiheiten stark ein. Deshalb ist es mir so wichtig, zu betonen: Ich bin genauso wie ihr. Auch nur ein Mensch. Ich bin genauso wie Sie. Jetzt gerade zum Beispiel machen wir beide einfach unseren Job. Lady Gaga zu sein, das ist mein Job.

Well, also because of that barrier. Since years everybody knows me, that decreases my freedom. That'S why its important to say: I'm human like you. I'm the same as you. We both do out job. Being Lady Gaga is my job.

Ja, ich bin ein sozialer Mensch. Aber die wahre Kraft dieses Albums besteht darin, dass ich mir selbst endlich eine gute Freundin geworden bin.

We know that you prefer Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump. Why is this election important?

Weil es wichtig ist, im Interesse der Allgemeinheit zu wählen. Nicht nur an sich selbst zu denken. Sich nicht nur von seinen eigenen, persönlichen Gefühlen verleiten zu lassen. Umso wichtiger ist es, sich zu beteiligen, sich einzumischen, mitzumachen. Denn sehr viel hängt von dieser Wahl ab.

Because it is important to elect in the interest of the whole. And not only to think go yourself. Not only being lead by your own, personal feelings. All the more its important to get into, to take part. A lot depends on this election.

Sie setzen sich für humanitäre Zwecke ein, unterstützen die Aussenseiter der Gesellschaft. Weshalb?

You advocate for humanity things, supporting the outcasts of the society. Why?

Es ist meine Mission, die Menschen glücklicher zu machen. Ich mag die Menschen. Die Liebe ist die Antwort auf alle Fragen. Es ist falsch, der Gewalt mit Angst zu begegnen. Mit Liebe zu reagieren ist immer richtig.

It is my mission to make humans happy. I like humans. The answer of all questions is love. It's from to react with force to fear. To react with love is right.

Sie sind im März 30 Jahre alt geworden. Ein besonderer Tag?

You turned in March 30 years old. A special day?

Ich bin komisch drauf, was diese Geburtstage angeht. Als ich 27 wurde, war das der viel grössere Meilenstein. Ich spürte, dass die 30 nicht mehr weit weg ist. Ich wurde mit 27 schon 30 und habe kapiert, wie es ist, als «Popstar» älter zu werden. Auf einmal fühlte ich mich diesem Druck ausgesetzt. Dabei habe ich keine Lust, mich jünger zu geben, als ich bin. Damals habe ich beschlossen, dass ich zu meinem jeweiligen Alter stehen werde. Ich selbst finde Älterwerden ja prima. Ich halte mich heute für weiser, intelligenter, gebildeter als in meinen Zwanzigern. Man muss ja auch dazu sagen, dass meine Zwanziger schon sehr anders verlaufen sind als die Zwanziger der meisten anderen Menschen. Vieles, was man da so erlebt, habe ich ja schlichtweg verpasst. Weil ich mit anderen Dingen beschäftigt war.

It's funny with these birthday. When I turned 27 it was a bigger mile stone. I felt that 30 is not far away. I turned with 27 30 and get how it is to become older as a popstar. Suddenly I felt under pressure. I don't even want to act younger as I am. I decided for myself to stand by my age. Getting old is amazing. I'm more wiser, intelligent and educated than in my twenties. Also needs to be added that my twenties were more different than of other humans. A lot what you experience, I missed. Because concentrated on other tings.

The title song "Joanne" is a beautiful folk ballad which is bout the dead sister of your dad. Joanne is also called the family local in New York, which your father runs.

Ist das nicht wundervoll? Mein Vater Joe ist so ein bescheidener, bodenständiger Mann, und es war immer sein Traum, ein Restaurant zu haben. Jetzt haben wir eins. Uns war wichtig, dass das Lokal kein typischer Promi-Schuppen wird, sondern eine richtige, familiäre Trattoria, in der wir unsere italienischen Wurzeln pflegen und zelebrieren. Dad hat also dieses Kochbuch zusammengestellt, ich habe das Vorwort geschrieben. Es heisst «Joanne Trattoria Cookbook: Classic Recipes and Scenes From an Italian American Restaurant». Das sind alles Rezepte unserer Familie sowie der Köche, die in unserem Lokal arbeiten.

Isn't that beautiful? My father is a man who is down to earth. His dream was to have a restaurant. Now we have one. It was important it won't be like a typical Promi-resutrant, but a real, familial Trattoria where celebrate our italian roots. Dad created a cooking book where he wrote the foreword. It'S called: «Joanne Trattoria Cookbook: Classic Recipes and Scenes From an Italian American Restaurant» There are all our recipes of our family and of the cooks who work at our restaurant.

Honestly this is a very humanizing article and the sooner some of these fans realize she's a human who changes and has different opinions the sooner they will realize they aren't that much different. This is a very innteresting interview. It helps me understand her more.

It's hard for some people to understand that she is a 30 year old woman, an artist, that is not going to act like a freak and sing electro pop songs all the time. I am enjoying seeing this more mature side of her, it's refreshing.
