Bling 31,405
Ok, this is where I get opinionated. To be honest, I LIVE for Gaga's crazy outfits, performances, and boppy dance music. BUT - over the last 3 years she has proved that she is much more than (in her words) a "money-making machine" and only does what will sell and be marketable. Now she's made some music that is her most personal to date, arguably the most authentic, and more expansive genre wise. We have this formula of "you have to do this promo, you have to do this performance or this awards show". The point I'm getting to here is...NO. She doesn't. She's already proved to the world she can sell millions of albums, sell out huge arenas, and so on. Personally I had the same thoughts as you in the beginning because I'm obsessed with Gaga and want nothing more than to soak up performances, interviews, etc. But I really feel this (could be) her best music yet when it comes to authenticity and organic musically. This album is just for her, her family, and her fans that will stick by her. I really think she's going to get new fans who may have questioned her before. She can do no wrong in my eyes. "Thank you Nashville, we love you. GOODNIGHT!!!" *drops mic* 🎤

She needs to realize she has fans and she wouldn't be where she is today without them so you need to cater to them a bit. I bet she had a whole album complete and then Mark Ronson stepped in and she scrapped the whole thing cause she was feeling this indie vibe and she thinks she's such a special flower that everyone would love it. I knew when mark Ronson came in the picture where this era was heading. I knew it was gonna be so basic. And basic is fine, but not after a 3 year wait. In an ideal situation she says "SURPRISE" and releases the album she had made before indie producers came into the picture and raises from the ground slaying the f*ck out of her fanbase with promo and performances You read my mind, I was thinking the exact same thing but was in no mood for a warning point or attacks from the 'Little Heroes'. I too knew this was going to be a mess when she began to shove Mark Ronson down everyone's throat. I think that she as a human should be able to freely make her own decisions and be happy, but she should also keep in mind what set her apart from the others. It makes me sad seeing Gaga shy down from the media and spotlight, dressing down and such while artists like Beyonce for example go out in daring costume-like dresses, put out mini-films, and basically take over what was once Gaga's stage. It's almost like everyone is Gaga but Gaga herself.

It's almost like everyone is Gaga but Gaga herself. Well put. I think that Gaga has a real martyr complex and is insecure about how the world sees her. Maybe she's scared to try as hard as she used to for fear of failure. But I think a lot of fans were rightfully excited at the prospect of disco-funk album with visuals similar to the INTEL collab as everything was hinting towards that at the end of last year/start of this year. There's nothing wrong with bucking expectations but in this case the result is much less interesting than what it could have been. PI is a huge disappointment as a lead single and much more basic than what she's capable of especially at this crucial juncture in her career. It has traces of that Currents disco sound towards the end but falls very short of anything on that album and what she could have produced with a more interesting concept. Million Reasons is beautiful but the song is still one cliche after another and could have been easily sung by Miley Cyrus or any other country-pop singer; something you can't so easily say for her older ballads. Some of the other snippets sound much more promising - Dancing in Circles for instance - but when I hear that song I again think of how much more wholly realized it would be with more ambitious visuals (like the INTEL ones) and perhaps a short film and storyline to accompany it. She has explicitly said that this album and era have no concept, so it's not like the barebones visuals and performances are in any way integral to the music, it's frankly just lazy. This is LADY GAGA. Part of her entire brand and reputation is built on being an exciting and entertaining performer. People are allowed to be annoyed by that so take your misguided "disgust" elsewhere. I'm at my 9th warning point but believe me when I say that my enthusiasm in you combating that argument is beyond understated.

The OP wasn't entirely negative, i'm anticipating this album more than any of her previous work but I'm still aloud to feel let down and annoyed by hardly any performances or promo. I'm on this site because i'm a huge fan so when an album is about to drop in 5 days i'd like to have some excitement via promotion and performances. Stop all this "if you're a fan you should enjoy the music" because a lot of us are enjoying it; it just makes sense that one of the biggest pop acts in the world could do a little promo and create some buzz for her new work and by wanting that it doesn't mean people "don't enjoy it anymore" Kay. telephonez 20
I don't understand why people are disappointed. I really like the album and the songs are excellent, some of her best work, and also a new direction. If you want her to be your icon and do all these amazing things maybe you should leave because shes clearly stated this era is a toned down era and the music will reflect that, and tbh it should be about the music, not the charts and hype. It should always be about the music first.

Quartz 12,535
This thread is still alive Have you not heard the album yet? It's awesome. So what if she won't promote the way you like? You rather have shitty music with on point marketing? Honestly Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊
