Telephone and Alejandro are definitely not enough to make you the artist of the year ;p TMBT is a totally different thing. Then Madonna was the artist of 2012

SlaeUrAnus 15,959
2010: Unarguably Gaga 2011: Adele and Gaga dominated, but Adele edges it for me 2012: Rihanna 2013: Pharrell (Blurred Lines, Get Lucky and Happy) 2014: Taylor Swift 2015: Adele 2016: Drake In my messy era. sillynate 6,170
You can't choose one. 2010: Gaga, Kesha, Katy 2011: ditto, Adele 2012: One of the most boring years in pop music. Full of one hit wonders. (Carly Rae, PSY, Foster the Kids, Goyte) 2013: Miley, Katy, Lorde 2014: Iggy, Ariana, Taylor 2015: can't say Adele because she came in at the end. That's like saying Beyoncé for 2013. Seems like this year was full of them releasing flop lead singles then scrapping the entire album and starting again, which would eventually come out the following year. So I guess I'll settle for Adele. 2016: Drake, Beyoncé, hopefully Gaga
Anderson123 38,299
2011 - Adele 2015 - Justin Bieber I think, and part of 2016. 2016 - Rihanna and Drake.

There were plenty of new artists, and of course Adele was big still but idk 2013: Miley Cyrus 2014: Taylor Swift 2015: Justin Bieber 2016: Drake scan my barcode
