Chic 20,830
I'm very pleased with Joanne so far. It's very good! I don't like all of the tracks, but I'm going to rate each track based on the snippets and say my opinion on each. Here we go: 1. Diamond Heart (7/10) - This song sounds like a huge banger. I'm not the biggest fan of the style of vocals, but I'm excited for it. It sounds quite nice - definitely one of the more pop songs on the album. 2. A-YO (8/10) - I initially did not like this song at all. But WOW. This song is ridiculously catchy. The southern twang benefits this more than in the live version, in my opinion. It's such a bop. 3. Joanne (5/10) - This is catchy, dark and beautiful. I can't wait for this entire track to be released. It's gorgeous. That being said, the snippet isn't that telling and I want to hear more of the song first. I don't know if it will change much, but it's good. 4. John Wayne (8/10) - Wow. Didn't expect this AT ALL. It's ridiculously catchy. People weren't that enthused about the song at the listening party! It's such an odd song, like a western Mary Jane Holland. Definitely one of her more unique choruses. 5. Dancin' In Circles (9/10) - MAJOR bop. Probably gonna be one of my favorites from the album. This just sounds phenomenal. It's fresh, incorporates reggae and has a sexy vibe to it. I can't believe people didn't say this was a potential single. It's massive! 6. Sinner's Prayer (2/10) - I mean...it's cute. But I don't like it. It sounds like a 2002 children's educational CD-ROM western instrumental, with try-hard vocals. I know she wants to be that mysterious hat-wearing cowgirl on the barstool of the local watering hole for this, but it doesn't suit her. Just not boring, and the vocals remain flat all the way through. 7. Come To Mama (10/10) - Holy. ****ing. ****. I NEVER thought Gaga would go this route. She pulls this off spectacularly. This is her natural voice. All the way back from Stefani, TF and TFM, this is it. What a massively impressive throwback song, done so naturally and well. This is the kind of music I grew up listening to during the holidays. Just...wow. Right up there with Dancin' In Circles. May be better, but very different. 8. Hey Girl (7/10) - This one is very interesting. It has an obvious Bennie and the Jets sample. It sounds classic, but is it because of that? I'm not sure, but I do think the vocals are great. Florence and Gaga's voices work so well together! This exceeded my expectations. 9. Angel Down (6/10) - Pretty dramatic song. I think this is more of a fitting song for Gaga than Sinner's Prayer. It sounds genuine. I like the unique instrumental, and it is catchy. I have a feeling there's a lot more to this song in the full version. I'm definitely keeping an eye out for this one on the record. 10. Grigio Girls (3/10) - This one really misses the mark for me. I think it's a bit wordy. For me, it's very forgettable. I don't really care for it much, but that's okay! Studio version is only a bit away! I do like the meaning behind it. 11. Just Another Day (7/10) - I really like this one - and I wasn't expecting much at all. The title didn't stick out to me, the listening party didn't think it was special. But this is kind of special. Her voice has such an immense quality in this song - the verse takes me right back to the 60's Christmas specials like Rudolph and Here Comes Santa Claus for some reason. Then it goes straight up Beatles, and you hear that growly Stefani voice pipe up (which is gorgeous, by the way). 12. Million Reasons (6/10) - I think it's very polished. Not a huge fan, but it really isn't bad. Kind of middle of the road, leaning good. The studio version is already out, so I can judge this a bit clearer. I think it's a little forgettable, but once I let myself immerse into it more and listen to the record as a whole, it'll have its place. 13. Perfect Illusion (8/10) - I think this is a wonderful song. A bit weird at first, but now I let out my rage with it like Gaga intended. It's a quality record! The instrumental is beautiful and the chorus is catchy. It's been out for a while, and while I was a little underwhelmed at first...It's Gaga. You've just gotta appreciate what she put into this record. And Angel Down (Work Tape), none for you. You're late to the party bitch Overall: 6/10. That might sound bad, but it isn't. Gaga took RISKS. And that's important. I see now the value of her doing so rather than sticking with EDM. I don't really like country, but I'm glad she did it. Does that make sense? Because I think I CAN like it in the future. I have to be in a certain mood. And I think it definitely has its place in this album. I suddenly see why this album is so refreshing to her. It rips off the chains of "Gaga" and allows her to be her own artist. This will garner a lot of respect - it has from me. This is a very up and down album. There are really really good tracks, then some really really bad ones. Then some are middle of the road. That's typical. Once the full songs come out, I'll have another review. But there are a lot of good parts of this album and they're solid. Yes, I was very hateful of the performances yesterday, but that's to be expected when there's such a big change. It takes longer for some people than it does for others. All in all, I am SO excited for this record! P.S. One disco song wouldn't have hurt

It's called judging what I hear and making reasonable inferences to the vibe of the songs individually. It's a unique and contributory post, and it's also positive. Really awkward vocals, the lyrics are pretty decent. Not catchy, and flat the whole way through. It's okay. I'll probably be skipping it.

Boy, bye But making a through review about it as if you listened the full duration of songs + the misleading thread title doesn't seems fair tho?
