Watched until the video actually addressed my point, which was on pain, and that's when she got the facts wrong unfortunately. She said 8 weeks, which is way waaaaayyyy off. Recently Republican House members tried to claim pain started at 20 weeks in an attempt to ban abortion beyond this point - but even they where wrong.

"Published research generally supports an experience of pain being possible only later in gestation than 20 weeks. A synthesis of available evidence was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2005 by experts from the University of California, San Francisco, and elsewhere, and their report concluded: “Evidence regarding the capacity for fetal pain is limited but indicates that fetal perception of pain is unlikely before the third trimester.” The third trimester begins at 27 to 28 weeks from conception.

The perception of pain requires an awareness of an unpleasant stimulus — receptors throughout the body must send a signal to the brain, where it can be processed as pain. One reason the JAMA review finds early pain perception unlikely is that the connections between the thalamus, a sort of relay center in the brain, and the cortex have not yet formed. This happens between 23 and 30 weeks gestational age, and the authors argue these connections are a precursor for pain perception. They also cite studies using electroencephalography that have shown the capacity for functional pain in preterm newborns “probably does not exist before 29 or 30 weeks.”"

A fetus that is unconscious and cannot feel pain can't be regarded as a moral subject.

If you watched the video, you would know she doesnt care if the baby can feel pain or not, she just brought that up to show how these things dont matter and what matters that life begins at conception.

Morality is a objective matter so everyone should have a say in it regardless of my sex or gender.

My mom also aborted her child because she had MS but in these circumstances its ok just like I support abortion when its rape.

If the condom break then you shouldnt have sex with random people.

where did you get the idea that im against abortion because of religion? my religion actually allows abortion. Being a rational person with standards does not equal being religious.

Gay Marriage is a personal right and issue that does not effect anyone so I support it to the fullest.. where did you get the idea that im against abortion because of religion? my religion actually allows abortion.

So i can't have sex with anyone just on case the condom breaks, and If I'm with my husband but WE DONT WANT TO HAVE ANY KIDS or we can't afford it then I'll just just to fuc k up my life because that condom broke. Gosh...

What is this thread turning into! Fellow GGD-ers (rational ones), can't we just ignore the anti-abortion brigade (if required by adding them to ignore list) and extend our support to the women of Poland? In any case rigid viewpoints won't change by discussion on the Internet.

Nicole

I will wholly support the women of Poland and I hope these laws a reformed asap.

I feel like a topic regarding abortion is argued here every few months and every few months I relay the same points over and over again.

It is completely okay to be pro-life for YOUR OWN circumstances, but those views should not be forced upon everyone. Limitations as to what qualifies for a woman to be allowed to have an abortion is completely bullshit. It should be available to all women, regardless of circumstances - can't afford a baby? Go for it. Health issues? Go for it. Simply don't want a baby? Go for it. Don't give me all the "but someone who wants the baby will adopt it!" crap. In the united states there are what, 100k kids who are eligible for adoption and even more who are not living with permanent families - go and adopt one of them instead of procreating at all.

It also seems that many people here do not understand how traumatic pregnancy can be, and how traumatic giving away a child can be. Do you honestly think it's a case of "Oh, I want to get an abortion"? More often it's a case of "I NEED to get an abortion". Do you think women celebrate? Do you think it's always an easy decision? Simply telling a woman to use condoms and "be responsible" is truly ignorant and to be quite frank, it's disgusting.

If you are against abortion, that is absolutely fine - when you apply it to your own personal circumstances. But do not think for a minute that you have the right to impose your personal beliefs onto others. Do not be part of a movement that is denying women the right to choose just because you would hypothetically choose differently.

The criminalisation of abortions does not stop abortions. It increases botched abortions and threatens both mother and baby. Where abortions are illegal, the financial welfare system would be stretched beyond its resources because someone who isn't capable to raise a child are being forced to do so in the case that they aren't comfortable with adoption. The child welfare system would be stretched of its resources, housing more foster kids who were put up for adoption willingly AND more kids who would be taken away from their mother/family due to the lack of adequate care some children will be receiving. There would be an increase in homeless babies and children.

Pregnancy is 40 weeks long. That's 10 months. Not every pregnancy is a smooth easy ride. There is morning sickness that can last an entire pregnancy. There's gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, your life is literally put on hold. Whether it was one drunken night, the product of rape or just non-malicious carelessness in safe sex, no woman should be forced to carry a child they do not want, or are not ready to have, for 40 weeks - just to have it stripped away. Nobody has the right to decide on my behalf if a baby is going to live inside me and depend on me for almost an entire year and potentially affect my entire future.

If you take pregnancy pills, wear a condom and cum outside of a woman, pregnancy wont happen.

it can still happen, they can fail, and cuming outside the vagina doesn't always work and pre-cum also has sperm. And a woman should be taking pregnancy pills forever just in case a condom breaks or she gets raped, no? You don't know their affects on the woman health. COMMON SENSE PEOPLE

It seems like you dont even listen to what I said.. you keep bringing up rape when I said many times I think its ok to abort if shes raped. Also, yes pre cum can happen but I said do all three so if a pre cum happens, it only happens inside a condom. Doing all this will make pregnancy go way low and only victims of pregnancy llike rape or being sick will have this problem.

I just sat through the entire thing... She doesn't make any counter point as to why a fetus should be considered human life and protected even though it is unconscious and can't feel pain.

So... No... Your video explained nothing to me and countered nothing about what I was talking about.

If a woman is rape, its another subject and I support abortion.. women who get rape would kill that chance of getting pregnant before it happens though. This guy supports abortion yet still admits a fetus is a alive person.. he talks about it from a scientific perception and almost all scientists agree with that, its just weather you should abort the alive fetus or not is where they disagree. Here is the video:

This whole topic is about women who got RAPED or would DIE GIVING BIRTH. The Polish government wants those abortions to be illegal, too!

A youtube video isn't scientific evidence. Show me the research that shows that a fetus is already 'alive'.

What does 'alive' mean anyways? It depends on your definition. This is a topic for philosophers with many different possible answers. The answer a scientist gives is based on this definition, and this definition of 'alive' is not an easy one. When can we call it 'alive'? I would say one factor that decides whether something is alive is if it's not directly dependent on another human body for its energy and oxygen and if it can make rational decisions.

And if you still believe abortion should be illegal, just remember that illegalising it won't prevent it from happening. It will still happen, but it will be done in undafe environments illegally or in foreign countries with extra costs for the woman. Another practical argument is that the kids who would've been aborted are often kids that are a drain on society's goods, it costs tens of thousands of years to have a child with Down for example, so it's a better idea to simply abort the fetus while they're still unaware of themselves and their surroundings and are not able to think.

@faysalaaa1

Please just list why you think a fetus is alive. No youtube videos, no 'SCIENCE!!11' - I want to hear what you have to say on this yourself. Why should we consider a fetus to be alive?
