ReidOne 12,427
@Lord Temptation thanks for posting. This was a compelling read. I'm not quite sure what to make of it... The author is clearly a fan (or, was at one time). The piece does a quite masterful job at encapsulating Gaga's relevance, while also touching on her intent. However, towards the end, it really doesn't speak so kindly. From my perspective, it basically reads as follows -- in 3 phases: - Gaga emerged as, at once, a revival of 70's glam and a forward thinking digital music native who's brilliant understanding of art, fame, popular culture, and technology have cemented her position as one of the legendary artists. She not only embraced, but CELEBRATED the idea that everything about her industry and her image was a lie. - Gaga started believing her own hype. And ultimately loses relevance. - Gaga went Hollywood and regained relevance, but of a completely different kind than she had before. Gaga is backpedaling on all of it saying she resents the fact that it was all a lie. Gaga is basically Courtney Love post-Hole. The ultimate sell out. I'm conflicted about the aim of this piece (as is the author, it seems). The first half of the article (and it's accompanying headline) seem as if the intent of the piece is to remind the reader (and perhaps, Gaga herself) of why we feel so deeply, obsessively in love with her in the first place. But the last half is pretty much an expose' that poses the idea that Gaga was ultimately a fraud all along, and that it really was about achieving fame for fame's sake.
