For Gods sake, have they seen the performers the SB have had in the last couple of years? Madonna - massive gay fanbase and the only fanbase she has left. Beyonce - massive gay fanbase and also a massive female fanbase. Katy - massive gay and female fanbase also. Seriously, these women don't make any music that could appeal to the average straight man's man. Madonna's early music is all very girlie and most of her recent stuff is designed for playing in gay clubs. Beyonce's whole raison d'etre is about appealing to and being inspirational to women with songs of female empowerment and being crazy in love with a man. And Katy...she's super bubblegum pop and has always been. Most straight men who like any songs by these women keep that under lock and key for fear of being branded sissy. Seriously, how Katy got this gig is beyond me.

Now you've got Gaga. She's a rock star in a pop star's clothing, everyone knows that. Once she gets on piano or guitar, she rocks the f**k out. She can hold her own against rock legends. She has songs that have appealed to the straight male community (TEOG, Y&I, even BR). Lots of metal acts like her a lot, even doing metal covers of BR. Respected male rockstars like Brian May and Gene Simmons have praised her. The critics respect her too. Plus, she already set herself up well with her knockout national anthem appearance. She knows how to play it and how to appeal to the whole of America. Do you really think Gaga's going to go on the SB stage and just sing her biggest hits from TF in their original pop conception in her 2008 costumes? No, she's going to show the whole world that she's a rock star. And the straight male audience will be wondering why on earth Katy Perry was asked to do this last year when she's done.

This is a brillant move, NFL.  Gaga can show she CAN entertaintain both the gays, girls and guys! Maybe old rocker guys too. 

Your post made me laugh! It's true - this is the designated toilet break for the football fans and the moment when the whole family comes in with the bowl of potato chips and gets entertained! As an international viewer, this is the only reason I hang around. This is the perfect opportunity to make Gaga's relevance increase among all ages once again and I can't wait.

Do you sit around all day pondering what kind of threads you can make? Lets just wait and see how NFL Superbowl does for her. Its not guaranteed to give her any promo, she has to hussle for this. The fact she is even performing there we should be thrilled. Its threads like these with negative overtones that really ruin the experience.

By the way, I remember hearing a quiz question last year that asked: "Besides Christmas Day, on what day in the US is the most food consumed?" Like a lot of people, I thought it must be Thanksgiving. Turned out, it was Superbowl day. Think about that for a minute. Think about all the massive Thanksgiving meals people have with a plate for the whole family and all the the trimmings vs a massive bowl of chips and a bottle of Coke for the entire family on Superbowl Day. It blows your mind how it could possible topple Thanksgiving, but that just shows how many millions watch that show to give it the biggest placement after Christmas. And the number of viewers increases by several million every year. The one this year pulled in 167 million. Think of all those hundreds of millions of Americans watching Gaga on their screens...this is what she's been needing after a rocky 6 years.

Why do so many people act like Lady Gaga is so 'out there' for an NFL performer? The half-time shows have had Madonna, Britney, Katy Perry, the Black Eyed Peas.... Pretty sure none of them are the kind of artists that NFL fans would listen to.
