They're both around the same level, that's why they're called the Queen and King of Pop. I gotta say, MJ is a little more iconic now that he has passed away, his music reached a new generation. I still remember his music being played everywhere that year. Not to mention Thriller is the best selling album of all time.

Edit: I'm pretty sure most people voting on that website are not even 80's kids.

ABBA did it before, but they didn't revolutionize it the same way Michael did. There's a reason Thriller is still talked about today.

MADONNA IS MORE ICONIC THAN THIS WORLD. When she dies the gates of Hell will burst open and claim unworthy souls who have yet to worship the ground she walked on. I will hopefully be placed beside her holy throne.

They need to learn....

This is from 1979, 3 years before Thriller lol. And they started before that.

Why do americans think they've invented everything?

Michael had amazing visuals in his music videos and great performances, but Madonna took more risks imo.

ABBA did it before and of course they were revolutionary. They pioneered pop music lol. People still talk about Thriller because it was revolutionary too, but ABBA were before. It's like Bad Romance was revolutionary, but Hung Up was before.

I think Madonna is quite frankly really underrated. After listening through her discography, she took some incredible risks. Way bigger risks than Gaga right now. Like, going from Ray of Light to American Life? Or just doing Ray of Light in general. Obviously ROL is an excellent album, but looking at all her other albums, it's so different, and I could see it as potentially being seen negatively. Luckily that wasn't the case. And then there's the whole erotica era, dressing as she pleased, and so on. I think once she dies, people will see her at the same, if not above, Michael's status. Madonna is an incredible artist with an equally incredible history behind her.
