That's my whole point and you're missing it. No I am getting your point. You're point is "Longevity is what matters! Gaga isn't a legend! Other pop artists have achieved what Gaga has achieved! Gaga hasn't cemented herself as the queen of pop! Gaga isn't on the same level as Mariah Carey, Paul Mccartney, Tony Bennett, Madonna". It just has no relevance to what I am talking about. It misses the point. The question still applies Why should Gaga care about becoming a legend? Why should she care about cementing herself as the queen? Why should she care about achieving the same things as Mariah, Paul, Tony Bennett or Madonna? Why can't she just create music she likes without a care for commercial success or without a care for becoming the next Madonna?

TropicOfCANCER 6,292
technically, nothing, but when artists reach thepoint of "i have nothing left to prove" then its the kiss of death in terms of longevity and success. she should constantly strive to prove that she can outdo herself artistically. Antonio 27,738
She doesn't have to prove anything to anyone, but don't you agree that it is such an amazing feeling seeing your fave climbing the charts, or being certified and awarded? Or just succeeding?

phantasmas 10,481
its hard to really say what else she needs to do to "prove herself" a legend so many legends exist or have existed who have never come close to the success she has reached, but are still revered and placed in various museums and halls of fame i guess it really just comes down to how ingrained she becomes in everybody's minds? if she lives inside us all, she will live forever

666sexxxdreams 34
I feel like Gaga's given up. She's lost that fire and that hunger inside her for her to reach her ultimate and full potential. Ever since she reached the peak in her career - it's almost as if she just said "I've done what I've had to. Oh well." I think Gaga should care about the charts some more so she can have that comeback that she wants. Wouldn't Gaga rather have people appreciating her music while keeping the sound she wants to an extent as opposed to throwing all the charts away and having it go unnoticed? Literally NO ONE talked about Perfect Illusion here after it dropped...Gaga's career went from 2009-2012 in my opinion. I'm fine as long as she's happy but I just wish she pushed herself just a smidge harder. - xoxo M

It's not an attack, but a legitimate question. I've seen people criticise Gaga, call her lazy or stupid or say she needs to work with RedOne or something in order to get a hit. Some people act as if they need her to be successful so she can 'reclaim her throne' or some other ludicrous reason. Why though? Why would Gaga care about that and what has she got to prove? She has had the #1 singles, she has had the #1 albums, she has had the giant world tours, she has had the iconic performances, she has the iconic fashion moments, she has had iconic songs, she has had iconic music videos, she has met presidents and royalty (and performed for them), she has been the biggest star on the planet, she has won Grammies, she has won a Golden Globe, she is an Academy Award nominee, she has had her work displayed in The Louvre, she has a sculpture made of her by Jeff Koons, she made a jazz album with Tony Bennett, she has been the lead actress in a television series, she is about to be the lead actress in a movie, she is apparently going to play the Super Bowl Halftime Show, she has made an impact on pop culture, she is worth 1/4 of a billion dollars. That's only scratching at the surface of what she has achieved. I think those who are worried due to a potential lack of funding for projects or a tour have tiny bit of legitimacy but even then, not only is it so highly unlikely that Gaga won't be able to make videos or tour, the video for G.U.Y was self funded and TF Ball was low budget but genuinely a brilliant show - she doesn't need to fill stadiums to be entertaining and she doesn't need much money to make compelling music videos. But from Gaga's perspective what does she have left to prove? Why should she care where her song charts? She has been the biggest star on the planet, she has been there and done that. From her perspective, why wouldn't she just make great songs that she loves and not worry about charts? She has got to prove to herself that she is capable of making good music. WE know how talented she is, but I feel she may not. I think she is getting better at self belief , but there is a lot of negativity around. I'm worried that she might get caught up in all the negativity To us, Gaga has nothing to prove. ZERO, ZILTCH, NADA, NOTHING!! She is so talented and I wish people could stop with the negativity End Racism Now
Werk 13,166
I know she doesn't care and I know it doesn't matter and I'm not telling Gaga too make songs for the charts (because I want her to make what she wants) but we're only like about 8 years into her career and I want her to have at least longevity whether she cares or not because it's kind of like still too early for her too fully flop yet and I'm not ready for that until it feels right even if it doesn't matter. This might sound rude.

The majority of Britney Spears's hits and record sales came from a span of time just as short as the TF/M eras and Britney's an icon of the industry. GaGa could release 50 flop albums and she would still be one of the most commercially successful artists ever. you're wrong. britney was opening with 500k copies in the USA with Circus 10 years after her career took off. Britney has HIT SINGLES up until her 7TH album. Gagas last hit single was 3 years ago with her 3rd/4th album, and by the looks of it, she wont be getting another one anytime soon. AP didnt even go platinum. Britney's 4th album had mega hits like Toxic. Britney never went THAT long without being commercially irrelevant. Even with Blackout, she was having hit singles and was obviously relevant (for good or bad reasons - dont matter).

Like how can you be okay with such a mediocre era and album like AP when you know she's capable of something like BTW and TFM. And then we have the Joanne era.... Like it's not even all about the success, it's also about the quality. I'm starting to believe that she's not as good of a songwriter/creator as I thought and that her first 3 albums were just a fluke in her life. She hasn't been able to create magic in 5 years. Maybe it's time to reach out to other writers in the business because maybe she just doesnt have it in her anymore. She's like not inspired. idk whats wrong
