Why do people still compare Gaga to Madonna?

This Poptrigger video was supposed to be about the video, and Brett (idiot) turned it into another compare Gaga to Madonna video. 

He's like,"The main riff of Papa Don't Preach is the exact same, and she shouldn't get credit because of it." 

All i could think was holy **** you really spent HOURS looking for someway you could bring it all back to madonna, the hooks aren't similar, and both songs are near polar opposites.

 

This was just a rant because I'm SO ****ING sick of people comparing Gaga to Madonna. Like it's been done, move the **** on please.

I never understood the Madonna comparisons. Though, all talented and original female artists are doomed with the comparison. Kylie copies and rivals Madonna. Gaga is a younger artist who steals her stuff. Gloria Trevi is the "Mexican Madonna". Thalia and Paulina Rubio get the same moniker. Selena was the "Mexican-American Madonna".

The shame is all these women are so different, complex and original. Just because they have personality and concepts they automatically are associated with Madonna. 

Lets be real, if you're gonna say Gaga's career has "copied" or been "inspired" any pop musician...it would be Kylie Minogue.

I understand some of the past comparisons to a degree, but Gaga is such an evolved artist these days that comparing her to Madonna is just asinine tbh, the PI/PDP comparison is the biggest reach if I've ever seen one

Yes and no. Her career was inspired by many artists including Madonna. 

And for those who say those are Madonna fans, not really. There are people who hate Gaga and will find a way to drag her. That was 2011, you're still living in the past. Madonna is always important babies.

Madonna was the first female superstar in music, period. She literally paved the way for all of our faves, so it's not a surprise that everyone is compared to her.

And the fact that her name is used to describe other people just speaks to how iconic she is. When you say someone is the "Mexican Madonna" you know exactly what they're talking about. I agree that it's a little lazy though  

But let's be really real here: Gaga was influenced IMMENSELY by Madonna *in the early stages of her career.

Well, it's not like Gaga fans don't do that to Katy Perry frequently...so, yeah, I get how that happens...

Idk, it's silly to blame somebody for the "demise" of someone you love and identify yourself with so much, but it's also so hard to face some harsh realities, you know...but, really, I feel we had this very convo so many times before and, in the end of the day, it doesn't really matter...it's like the "Britney spears lip-syncs" thing or the Beyoncé is overrated talk: it changes nothing!
