Those scenes included Mark and the other producers of the song, as well as fans. Gaga was putting several aspects of her career in one place. In recent interviews, she talked about the woman that she would likely be today if she had not been so successful with her music. I think that, for the video, she was continuing to think about that. What if her dream of being a pop star had only turned out to be an illusion? She'd still be singing and dancing, but no one would be listening or watching. Dominic 11,922
Of course it's about heartbreak. It's right there in the lyrics. It was created when things were still off with Taylor so it's clearly her emotions towards the situation but in a more dramatic way. The video is pretty simple. She runs away to the desert full of anger and heartbreak to find herself again. She is in a crowd and performing because that's when she is happiest. It snaps back at the end to her being alone because that's simply the situation she is in. The relationship was a perfect illusion that she's trying to escape from by having these 'visions' of her performing for a crowd...being free. Nothing about fan betrayals or anything. I think that theory gets tossed around but it's such an egotistical one. These 'betrayals' aren't significant enough to her to build an entire song and video on. The hardest thing in this world is to live in it
