djBuffoon 12,075
I always love hear Wendy Williams talking about anything to do with music or artistry, things she clearly knows a lot about.
Tellerphone 123
Wendy is an idiot but she does have influence with the GP. Anyway I hear there are negotiations behind the scenes right now trying to get Gaga to guest host for a whole week on The FAMILY FEUDÂ in January. I wonder if it will pan out. Could be good promo for Joanne and Superbowl.

Brian Ryan 1,468
A person changing their mind is not a hypocrite. It's called changing her mind. She's a human. She's free to do that... "oh I use to not like Selena Gomez" "I now like Selena Gomez. I agree with her. While I would like Lady Gaga... I agree with her especially with Rihanna. A lot of people who watch the Superbowl are not watching just for the halftime show of Lady Gaga then true it off... they don't give their view from just little monsters. I would prefer if it was her choices especially Rihanna who are more current and have current hits. I think it may too early in the game for Lady Gaga. Idk. I just don't think she's right for this year. I would enjoy her.

I'm dying right now!!  She said the Bad Boy family, which includes Lil' Kim not just kim. The Bad Boy family timeless of hits would attract the viewers of the SuperBowl way more than Lady Gaga based on the demographics who watch the Superbowl and actually like football. StrawberryBlond 14,600
Ugh, this women...good points wrapped in terrible packaging more often than not. Just when she says something on point, she goes and says something totally stupid. And seems to forget contradictory statements she made previously. Gaga isn't the type of artist worth getting out of bed to watch? Does she not know that every time Gaga performs at a big event like the VMAs, ratings soar? Does she not know how many people have gone to see Gaga live? Does she not know Gaga's widely considered to be an act that actually gives you your money's worth with her live performances? The girl can sing amazingly, she can play instruments, she has catchy songs that people know, she can even dance. How does this not make for a good SB performer? So many people think Gaga isn't appropriate for such an event because she'll be too controversial or she'll focus her set too much on gays and won't appeal to the average straight male viewer. I think recent years have shown that Gaga knows how to dial it back when appropriate (Oscars performances, duets with Tony, the SB anthem...) She didn't try to modify these songs to be controversial, she dressed accordingly, she respected the occasion. Gaga's music is also proven to be popular with more than just the gays and she has a lot of hits that people will know, love them or hate them and quite a few of them will be appropriate to listen to with your family (Just Dance, Paparazzi, Bad Romance, Telephone, Alejandro, BTW, TEOG, Y&I, Applause...). And as for the argument that she won't appeal to the average straight male SB watcher...first off, look at the outfits she wears and how pretty she can make herself look. But secondly, in the last few years, we've had a bunch of female popstars doing the show. Bruno Mars was the only male act that broke up Madonna, Beyonce and Katy in the last 4 years. I don't think your average beer-swilling redneck Republican football supporter wants to see any of these women perform, they'd rather a rock act, or rap at most. Gaga can do rock and roll and play instruments and sing, dance and perform like a rockstar. If any female act's going to appeal to them, it's her. And yeah, some of her choices are ok. Rihanna and JLo would be fine. But Drake? Seriously? He can't sing and just walks about the stage! Almost all his songs are about exes and various adult behaviours, not an appropriate family kinda material. If he brings on any support acts, what's he going to do? Grind against Rihanna while singing Work? Grind against Nicki while singing about what he's going to do to her if she becomes single? Just because he's popular right now doesn't mean he's appropriate. Most of the public only know his 2 biggest songs - Hotline Bling and One Dance. Even then, he's a very niche act. Most people who don't concern themselves with urban music don't know him from Adam. One of the points of the SB is that the act sings songs that everyone knows and can sing along to. How can the people sing along to 2 hits with mumbled, incoherent lyrics? 18 hours ago, ReidOne said: Two more things I'd like to mention... #1 - Yes, Wendy is being 100% contradictory to her remarks about Gaga at Super Bowl halftime compared to a few months ago. But please remember... Wendy nearly lost everything a few months ago when she made the horribly misguided remarks about historically black universities and the NAACP. She had to do some major backpedaling, completely contrary to her "say it like you mean it" mantra. Now, I commend her for having the maturity to recognize her mistakes in those comments. But, as a daily Wendy watcher, I've noticed that ever since then she has been going out of her way to win her "black pop culture" credibility back (hopefully that does not sound insensitive; it's not meant to be, just not sure how else to say it). Wendy's entire persona is rooted in black pop culture, since her radio days. It's been her base for over 25 years. She cannot afford to lose it. It's only with this daytime talk show that she's had to diversify and cover more "white pop culture" topics. In this case, with an artist like Gaga who does not really get played on urban radio, especially compared to the other (bigger) pop acts of the moment (Drake, Rihanna, etc...), it behooves her to shade Gaga and hold up the biggest pop acts of the day, who also happen to be black (Drake and Rihanna --- you can't deny they own the charts right now). She's just being a savvy marketer. I don't believe she is actually this opposed to Gaga's halftime, but she's trying to brand herself. Right or wrong. This is just how the entertainment industry works. I'm not trying to make justifications for Wendy, but just shed some light that she is still in "damage control" mode from a few months ago, and dragging Gaga is an easy target for her here.  #2 - Wendy actually has a point. Drake and Rihanna have the freaking midas touch right now. Gaga has not had a radio hit in 3 years, and has not produced consistent radio hits in over half a decade. Why should Gaga be the halftime when these other options are just as much, if not more viable for mainstream audiences? Again, please don't drag me! None of this is meant as disrespect toward Gaga OR Wendy. But just remove yourselves from the Little Monster mentality for a moment and think like an entertainment industry business mind. This all makes sense for Wendy to air this perspective right now. PI is really struggling. This is just her serving the tea that the people want. Let the woman do her job. Gaga will be back.... Maybe not in this era (or maybe so?), but it will happen. But we have to be patient and let other entertainers have their moment. Drake & Rihanna would be a brilliant selection for the halftime. Isn't it rather unprofessional to put down an artist just for the sake of maintaining your audience, though? I notice it's also ok for a black person to big up their own race when it comes to music but if a white person does nothing but praise other white acts, they get called a racist. And being popular isn't the be all and end all. You have to be appropriate for a family audience, you have to have a lot of hits that people recognise, you have to be a good performer. And I'm sorry, but Drake can't sing and has no personality, stage presence of enough hits. Rihanna could do it but she'd have to tone down the sexuality massively and really work on her voice. It's not just about who's had a hit recently. Beyonce hadn't had a big hit in years when she did the SB. Most rock acts that perform haven't had a hit in over a decade and more, but they get asked to perform because their legends and their songs are known. Wendy's hardly "giving the people what they want" when PI's only just been released this week and a lot of people still don't know about it yet. The song's just come out and already you're saying it's really struggling! Get a grip! Songs rise in the US, that's how the charts work! It's not like Gaga's currently going through a public smear campaign to the point where tv audiences will be begging for a chance to put her down. If you don't want Gaga to comeback now, when do you? Because if she has 2 flop albums in a row, she could be done, just saying. What kind of fan are you that you're treating her comeback with so little faith? And what do you mean be patient and let other entertainers have their moment? Rihanna's been having her moment for over a decade now, even on a break she was still inescapable. And Drake's been having his (majorly undeserved) moment since 2012. If anyone could do with a break from the industry, it's these two. Gaga's been away long enough. She deserves a comeback more than anyone else in the pop industry right now.
