Gagas love 722
and also, fyi, applause ....born this way.....bad romance...just dance were allllll lead singles and none of them truly gave a representation of their albums. lolol can we just enjoy the music ? and talk about like the drums and the beats and lyrics and stop acting like managers? she has one........ already........ i get its your opinion but you guys legit focus on the logistics when we should focus on the art shes producing. thats why its an indie album, so you guys can all go crazy talking about the singles and gaga is gonna laugh her ass off because she intentionally is gonna make it so that its not about the charts lol. so yeah, ima be jamming to perfect illusion and im not gonna be like, omg is joanne like this? cause im a fan of gaga and i understand her art and none of her albums have had songs that are similar. each song is different. in fact her album goes from a certain type of style, then the middle transitions, then the end is completely different. JUST STOP lol you guys ruin the era truly. if i was gaga, Id release three jazz albums in the span of seven years and just make good music for my friends and family and make money other ways. cause she worked hard for perfect illusion and thread like this are just ignorant. youre comparing the whole industry to two artists , arianna the most basic pop performer ever, and rihanna who has a whole different genre. stop grouping artists together. rant over. ugh. sorry

Gwen Stefani did the same thing and it failed. Her original lead peaked higher than her actual album singles. Yea her album debuted #1, but it was a weak week and it fell into oblivion. As for Rihanna, a mess. This could be true. One of the reasons I was a bit more lenient with her, but it still upset me. 7 hours ago, StrawberryBlond said: Mariah Carey also did this (her Me I Am Mariah album was the eventual result of a campaign that originally started 2 years previously in 2012 and she just put out 5 separate singles to kickstart the album until she could officially take no more). I hate it. I'm so glad Gaga's never done it. If you're prepared to throw away an album's worth of effort (which is, you know, your job to make) just because the first single didn't take off, then maybe you shouldn't be an artist. The fact is that art isn't always appreciated to the extent that the artist would like and when it's competitive art, not everyone's hard work can win. It sucks, but that's the risk you take by putting your work out there and choosing to be competitive with it. Thing is, the strategy so rarely works. The public's confused because they wonder what's the deal with this single that never resulted in anything, so if a new single comes along, they're unsure whether they should bother getting invested in it just in case it goes nowhere too. Also, the fans have already offloaded their biggest downloading support on the song that was supposed to be your lead single, so any follow-ups will be treated like follow-ups, meaning that their chance of being hits are slimmer. It disrespects the fans by fleecing them unnecessarily and taking advantage of their loyalty and desire to see you do well. This makes the fans annoyed and they get sick of waiting. The fans just want the album - give it to them. It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that if a lead single utterly flops, your album will too, so don't even try to restart. At least give the fans the music they waited for and stop wasting people's time by playing a waiting game on them. Praising them for it tells them that this kind of thing is acceptable, so they'll keep on doing it to you. I've long ago learned that if you give artists an inch, they'll take a mile. Buy their lead single despite it being terrible? They'll continue making bad singles. Blindly buy an album despite said lead single being terrible? They'll continue to make bad albums. Buy tickets to their tour despite the album it's supporting not being released yet? They'll continue to put out tickets pre-album to ensure that even if the music's terrible, they'll still pull in big bucks from touring. Tell an artist that you're nothing but a mindless sheep who accepts whatever choice they make and they'll treat you as such. And make no mistake - while re-recording will of course cost extra money, they'll be able to re-coup all of that if they make a GP-approved single and put out tour tickets before the album release. That's what Rihanna did. While I don't agree with all your music preferences as I'm sure you know, I'm right on your side with this one. I actually think Anti's ok, her best album for a while, but the methods that she took to get there were unacceptable. If she was as badass as her fans claim she is, she wouldn't care about her commercial performance or what the critics thought, she'd just be like "here's the music I made, I love it, deal with it." We'll see if the Grammys give her any nominations for it but if they don't, at least it'll prove to her that releasing Grammy bait isn't always the way to do it. I think she was probably really annoyed that none of her original 3 singles resulted in any Grammy nominations. She must have been like: "I put Kanye and McCartney on a stripped back ballad, what more do they want?!" She's looking for Grammys with her new stuff, undoubtedly and she was ruffled when she didn't get it. Problem was, she had talked so passionately about this album a whole year before its eventual release. She said it was almost done and she was so proud of it. But then months pass with nothing, which suggested that she'd had to alter her vision. When we eventually got the album, yeah, it was her most risky stuff to date, but still, we'll never know what the album would have sounded like in its original conception. What message does it send about Rihanna as an artist if she can't stand by her artistic choices? This whole Anti album was supposed to make people respect her as a serious artist. It just did the opposite for me. It's like someone masquerading as an artist. If she really didn't care about commercial success, she wouldn't have re-worked her era with a single featuring Drake, someone who had proved to make hits for her in the past. I echo someone who said: "Yeah, Rih, make sure to come back with those commercial bops as soon as you're done pretending to be an artist." At least we agree on something I do like Anti but it leaves such a bad taste in my mouth because of what happened with it.
