Indie artists don't try to cater to the whole world or make themselves super-visible or well known. Exactly. Sometimes it's their choice and sometimes that's all their label has to offer. Sister 9,907
They can say that all that they want, but it does not stand with any truth, because this is Gaga and the entire planet knows who she is, a major popular artist, so they had better watch out with using that word with Lady Gaga, it holds no logic and can make her look silly, as though this is her fault, when it actually is not. Now, about the genre of pop exclusively, Gaga hasn't been exclusively this all out "pop singer" exclusively, since Paparazzi, as in, like Britney Spears and the other girls ahead and during her time. Gaga came out and professed her love for all music and certainly rock, way back then as the world was learning about who this girl is, so if the record company will not use "indie" and just let Gaga deliver in music and interviews as she usually does, she can shape her image, meaning and sound, just as she has always done and she will sail smooth, just like any of her more rock tinged songs that have been on her albums since The Fame, along side those bubble gum pop records and no one would even question her about it. The future's uncertain and the end is always near.
nativenewyorker 1,190
LG5 can never be an Indie album bc Gaga is signed to a major record label and is a famous superstar. We can call this a more alternative or singer-songwriter step for her but certainly not indie. When I first saw the album cover, I thought about her aesthetic and the personal album title along with her collabs, Beck, Father John Misty, Florence, the country songwriter Hillary Lindsey. She seems to be going in an alternative route. Similar but not nearly as non-mainstream as Lana Del Rey. Perfect Illusion is a huge pop song and Gaga loves pop, so I don't think we'll be seeing her drop the commercial pop aspects anytime soon. I think she's just exploring new territory. Zilla 13,434
I grew up as indie=independent but it gets fuzzy Feels like she's trying to regress back into her roots as if she was signed to a smaller label like she was back in the day. Guest
Well considering the sound of the first single, the work of her producers and collaborators... I don't see anything "indie" coming from this album... but who knows for sure until it is released
