KyliesChild 16,907
Joanne is coming soon, and because of this I will teach you all about the sitar since on the album a song will have production that incorporates the instrument. Family: lute. Most plucked string instruments are part of this family. The instrument has 5 strings (played with a plectrum), with 13 strings under the main 5. Typically measuring about 1.2 metres (4 feet) in length, the sitar has a deep pear-shaped gourd body; a long, wide, hollow wooden neck; both front and side tuning pegs; and 20 arched movable frets. Raga suits the instrument very nicely. The invention of the Sitar may derive from the Mughul period in India. Raga is quite important to South Asian musicians because of the complexity in the melodies. Range of the sitar: up to 5 octaves (varies on what kind of sitar it is). Some famous sitar players: Nikhil Banerjee Ravi Shankar Vilayat Khan There are many theories on how the sitar was invented. Amir Khusru has been linked to a common theory many people believe. Amrit Sen and Rahim Sen are credited with modifying the tuning and stringing of the Sitar and introducing numerous new techniques to the instrument. ------------------------------------------------- Today's topic: To those familiar with the instrument: what style of the sitar do you think would ideally appeal towards your liking? What instruments would you like for Gaga to incorporate in her work later on? If you'd like to learn more about musical techniques for string instruments, check out my next Learning with Gaga later this week.

hELXIG 42,954
I've always loved the sitar! And I love it when artists play with less common instruments. It could sound really cool! Depends how she implements it. But I'm here for it! Edit: kinda reminds me of the instrument at the beginning of Aura and how different that was first listen! I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Zilla 13,383
I'm wondering if there's a Beatles reference there because as we all know, George Harrison and the Beatles had a period in their career where they were very spiritual and went to India to meet with Maharishi and it heavily influenced their music in the mid to late 1960's. Especially since she seems to be more spiritual now. 𝙸'𝚖 𝚊 𝚓𝚘𝚛𝚝𝚜 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚓𝚎𝚕𝚕𝚢 𝚜𝚑𝚘𝚎𝚜 𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚍 𝚘𝚏 𝚐𝚒𝚛𝚕.
