Other songs could fit your tastes better but they probably wanted a catchy and uptempo one for radio appeal. You know, the song may be not succesfull atm but people are talking about it and they want to hear the rest of the album. It's kinda a good promo for the whole record I guess. I love PI, it's one of my favourite Gaga's songs so far! TONIGHT I WON'T WEAR MY DISGUISE

Tellerphone 123
Oh God this is shaping up to having a worse reception than ARTPOP. I pray The Joanne Ball doesn't get cancelled because things aren't so great commercially atm.

Which isn't the end of the world. She would make a lot less money sure, but apparently she doesn't care about that. She would be able to put on a more intimate show. Dominic 11,922
Looks like the album will not be a commercial hit if PI was the most profitable and hit-worthy single. I'm all for experimental but I also want a commercially successful era as well. Things aren't looking great in that aspect. Let's just hope the music is at least decent then if not commercial. Kenji 90
That was happening all the time for all artists. Most of the time or almost everytime ,record companies choose the lead single. Jimmy from Interscope did choose Applause and they choose PI this time. The single is great. It´s one of her best lead singles. It´s just Gaga exploring Streaming Era ,and Streaming Era needs to get to know her......... But i strongly believe that Gaga has to get a little bit closer to all music enthusiasts.....Little monsters fanbase is a very small portion when it comes down to sales figures.... Cheek to Cheek despite being a jazz record sold 1.2 million copies worldwide and over 700,000 copies in the US. I guess if Joanne is a good album, it doesn't need much promotion to sell. However, I still think she needs to promote the singles (and album) to give the sales a boost. I mean, why not? Her live performances are always amazing and entertaining. eNICKma 240
There's been PLENTY of times where singles that come out for an album are out of order In popularity. If anything, I think it's smart not to release your best track first because everyone knows an album that is expected to be in top charts has at least three singles and music videos...so if anything I'd pick the 3 best ones and use the biggest hit as the second or third single to keep building a stronger Excitement for the album release. If u play your best one first, then I'd think numbers would dwindle down when the other singles and videos drop. I'm no professional but it makes sense to me. i love PI, Its hella underrated and I'm very hopeful it turns out to be a grower for the GP. Of course she needs to promote the record and I have a feeling that this time she'll give us the best she can by showing her real voice, I mean, the songs will show us her real vocal abilities without any corrections. I'm so excited! I don't want another Judas performance mess when she couldn't handle that. But do we really deserve that? ARTPOP and PI has shown that most of 'LM' don't care about her artistic vision, they only care about sales... I don't remember any big meltdowns when ARTPOP came out because everybody was saying that it was great album... the mess started after its underperformance. I want to say that we should focus on the good music, I think that it's all what Gaga wants from us atm. TONIGHT I WON'T WEAR MY DISGUISE
