Nope. I will agree that Bruno Mars was huge when Uptown Funk was released. But Mark Ronson wasn't really well known. The GP didn't know of him. His only hit was Rehab and it wasn't his song. Sia did have many hit songs, but wasn't really know as she was featured on those songs. Chandelier was her first solo smash, but she still wasn't a main popstar. Alive didn't perform well and radio didn't pick up on Cheap Thrills until the Sean Paul Remix was released. Since the success of Cheap Thrills she seems more well known. It after all is one of the longest songs to stay #1 on radio this year.   I was in no way saying that these artists aren't known now, but at the time those songs were released they really weren't

Valery was huge too though. And to be honest, most people thought Uptown Funk was by Bruno alone anyway :neyde:.

It's already a given isn't it? We're not in elementary school so there is no need to say "in my opinion" every time you state an opinion. :awkney:

You are calling others delusional and claiming UF is the greatest song ever, as if it's a fact. Maybe you can check your wording.

Uptown Funk. It ended up going #1 later on and stayed at #1 for 14 consecutive weeks.

Cheap Thrills debuted at 81 and One Dance at 21, both eventually going #1 this year. Why do you guys expect Gaga to have instant success? This isn't 2010 anymore. Also most of Gaga's hits were not #1 anyway lol.

Point is I'm not saying PI is gonna be a big hit, but it still has the potential to grow some. And either way, the song is still great, Joanne is still coming, and Gaga is stil happy. So why aren't you?

Thank you for this!

Gaga's pre-album singles are frontloaded.

They mostly peak in their first 2 weeks.

BTW #1

Judas #10

TEOG #3

Applause #4

DWUW#13

And then there's just dance and poker face which took months

It got universal acclaim and is one of the best selling and successful songs of all time. I think it's a very safe claim to say that it's one of the greatest songs. :laughga:

It's still subjective.

I don't think PI will be a smash hit, but I'm hoping the music video next week helps. I also pray she has TV appearances/performances planned. I think a simple video and some performances could do this song WONDERS.

The radio is actually supporting this song, its sales are just extremely lackluster. It's free falling on iTunes and might be out of the iTunes 100 by Monday. :/ It needs promo.

REALITY

Bless your soul :flutter:

Considering the circumstances that Gaga's in right now: the fact that she wasn't in the mainstream music industry for 3 years (even then, most people are unaware of ARTPOP); the fact that her sound is different; the fact that she's not being "weird" with her clothing choices, I think she's doing really well!

The song's also a grower. I've loved it since the beginning, but the song was certainly polarizing, especially when it was first released. I remember countless threads bashing it and saying it was complete and utter sh*t. Now, I'd say the majority of this forum has people loving the song. It grows on people.

We'll just have to wait and see, but the examples that the O.P.'s listed are perfect examples of songs that weren't "smash hits" since the beginning.

3 years since G.U.Y? :O

I'm pretty sure she was out of the spotlight two years at max. 3 it's impossible. ARTPOP was promoted till 2014. It was released in november. Why people keep acting like she was out for 3 years.

3 years since her last solo album, I mean; however, even then, like I said, most people are really even unaware of ARTPOP's existence.

For most people, the last permanent recollection of Gaga could have been from Born This Way.

True... ARTPOP was forgettable. Mostly by the poor management and singles choices.

It took Sia 23 weeks to get to the top spot on the Hot 100, one more week than it took Just Dance. Britney's Womanizer jumped from 96 to 1 in a week, and Kelly Clarkson's My Life Would Suck Without You jumped 96 spots to number 1 in a week. Anything could happen.

Yes.

I'm sure most of the public believes Applause was her last single before PI. DWUW didn't get the chance to become relevant with the public and G.U.Y. was nonexistent.
