No clue why you guys would want to live past 120. It doesn't matter if they manage to slow down the cell division process, you're still literally rotting away :rip: not like you're gonna look 20 if they ever manage to slow down the cells

Who the fck wants lo live 120 years. Or 80 for the matter

Uhh depends. If when we extend life we can extend the time u spend healthy why not?

Provided i was healthy, i wouldnt mind living for nearly eternity

Then again, im one for discovery and advancement. I wouldnt wanna die until i learned everything about the universe, which ill mever get to because the knowledge is endless!!!!!

Theres some kind of strings at the end of your chromosones that shrink every time your cells divide. Its almost like a clock.

In fact if you investigate a crime scene and you get DNA samples, you can have an idea of how old they are based on the remaining size of those strings

Lab tests show that once those strings shrink to a certain size, they stop dividing. This is true for any species (although in some species it shrinks faster than in others)

Wed need to find a way to slow that down or stop it

But virtually no one lives long enough for that. Complications from aging (even if you have no health issues) usually will kill you before you get to that point. Many perfectly healthy people in their 90s and beyond are perfectly healthy but their body is just weak and slowly shuts down (sometimes suddenly) and they die.

Many scientists believe there is another conponent to aging although its not clear how big a role it plays. Everytime your cells divide, there are errors created, genic information that wasnt perfectly copied and it accumulates over time. Its believed that once enough errors accumulate, it starts to impact your organ and body functions.

The errors probably explain malfunctions and health problems that aggravate as you get older

The shrinking strings shouldnt cause health problems but probably explain slowing efficiency of cells and gradual weakening of your functions

A person who lives as healthy as possible can reduce errors in DNA by putting less strain on system but there is no evidence to show that the shrinking striggs are affected by gealth habits

In essance 1 aspect of aging you can slow by being healthy but the other factor you have no control over

Technically we have found a way to stop them from ageing (making cells divide over the limit). One word: Cancer.

Cancer cells are considered to be immortal because unlike our normal cells which are programmed to die, cancer cells can continue to divide indefinitely (if I recall correctly). I believe scientists already developed a way to by-pass our natural 'programming' so our cells can continue to divide long after the limit, but the problem is testing. It's unethical because it can lead to the formation of tumours in test subjects.

The most likely reason why our cells are programmed to die is, as you've mentioned, to reduce the likelihood of developing genetic errors when splitting. Since as time progresses the chance of a deformity in the DNA replication process increases.

If they slowed down aging then u could physically at 80 be like we are at 60 now for example. Why not???

Thinking scientists are ever going to come close to doing that great of an achievement in our lifetime is completely unrealistic lol. DNA engineering is an extremely difficult concept as is  My point is that you're still going to LOOK old no matter if they slowed it down or not. This ain't some vampire bullshit where you look 17 but are actually 3000 years old :rip:

I have been making them tho. Just yesterday i made one on the possibility of warp drive and a few days ago a thread on an oil discovery in Texas

guess u just havent been on while ive been on

well I'm looking forward to reading more of your threads. they are literally the most interesting non-Gaga threads on this forum.

Who said anything about it being in our lifetimes tho??? We never said that :koons:

And if aging was slowed of course ud look younger longer

If u didnt look younger longer then that means your cells would be deteriorating just as fast and in turn ud die just as young. A.K your aging slowdown wouldnt actually be working :rip:

Most of the people in my family would call this b.s. 'cause they believe people used to live to, like, 700 or something :spin:

900. The biblical text says 900 :grr:

And since genetic errors are part of aging as well (or so they believe), keeping them dividing longer would only do so much
