I have one critique about Perfect Illusion that really puts me off....

The mixing of Gaga's songs has been dreadful since The Fame Monster. I've learnt to expect it.

Born This Way was just noise, ARTPOP was just all over the place and Perfect Illusion is an awkward mix of the both. I can't wait for the stems to leak because someone needs to bring the drums up above the noise.

Thats what u get when an artist insists on being a part of the writing process and productiom but they arent as good as they like to think they are, especially the production

 

Gaga needs to recognize where shes not very good at and accept help and let producers handle it 👀

That is my one and only issue with the song as well. On radio it doesn't happen because the song has been compressed a bit and it sounds much more even.

I agree (low key bugs me now when people mix up mastering and mixing a song ) but it's evidently a problem when people who don't even know how to do it are criticising it. It's another thing I'm shocked that no one in her team has insisted on getting right considering it takes away so much from the music when it's being done as poorly as it is.

I listened to Lemonade properly a few months back and my God the mixing is magical. If you get the chance with some good quality headphones, listen to Pray You Catch Me and Hold Up with your eyes closed, even if you don't like Beyoncé. The detail and precision is incredible. This is the standard Gaga should be DEMANDING.

I have. I still don't like Lemonade. I've tried. Its not for me.

tbh I think it's just cuz that's when the instrumental actually really hits for the first time, so it gives the ~illusion~ of the mixing being wonky
