To me the song is about her relationship with Taylor, it wasn't love it was a Perfect Illusion. The outro sounds like she has accepted their relationship is over "You were a perfect illusion".

Pacify Him

No. It was us, the fans, and how GP perceives her as a whole. Management too probably. Her past....

I mean it is about a relationship but it can mean a lot of things like social media like she's already said in an interview

hard to tell if it actually is about Taylor if they've been working on this song for a while

"Caught up in your show at least now I know" Maybe that part is about him.

Honestly, the lyrics remind me a lot of AHS and The Countesses various relationships through out the show. Maybe she is taking inspiration from the fictional characters she is playing now as well.

The song works on many levels despite having fairly straight forward lyrics.

I don't think it's about one person in particular, I think its about a lot of things and people and getting caught up in the emotion and superficiality of how things look, thinking you're in love with something or someone, but really its the emotion and feeling you're addicted to. Being blinded by love, or your feelings about someone or something, or the rush they give you, being too blind to see the truth cuz you're addicted to the feelings. Like being high on drugs, you're not aware of what you're doing but you're caught up in whatever the drugs do for you, how they make you feel, you're too blind to see they are lethal/toxic. Same theme as Bad Romance in a way.

oooooh I like thinking that it's about the fans that betrayed her.  That means she is still writing about fame :) haha

Tryin' to get control, pressure's takin' it's toll - the race to get to the top, headlines, her weariness (remember, ARTPOP was rushed and she took a 3 year break :laughga:)

In a modern ecstacy - the alter ego, Lady Gaga

It wasn't love, mistaken for love - gp's perception, fans

You were so perfect - she's talking about herself

Yeah I'm over the show, yeah at least now I know - the oldGa is over :classy: She has fully reinvented herself

She and Taylor are clearly still in love, and even if they weren't anymore I don't think she would consider their story as a perfect illusion, they were happy together.

this. I think her and Taylor's situation MAY have INSPIRED the song, but it can also have nothing to do with it. I don't think it REALLY is about Taylor, I would be so disappointed in Gaga if it was. They clearly loved and still love each other.

+ it would be childish, being 30 yo, shitting on your 5 year relationship.
