why do y'all always talk about how good is a song by how it would have done in the charts?????????

I meant creativity successful more so than commercially successful, but both are relevant if you are talking about the sucess of a song by an artist who creates music with the purpose of it being as popular as possible.

.....do you really think Gaga does music for that purpose?

and if you do, are you a fan of someone with that mindset?

I don't think there is any shame in an artist wanting their work to be popular and reach as many people as possible.

I don't think it is different. She makes pop music, pop being short for popular. Commercial sucess isn't just a byproduct of her music it is part of its intention. She wants to reach as many people as possible. I don't think there is anything wrong with that, and I don't think an artist being driven my commercial sucess necessarily means their art is worth any less than art created by an artist who creates with disregard for the public.

She goes into more detail about it in an interview she did with Neil Strauss for his book. I don't have it on me, but it's worth reading if you can find it.

lemme read it and i'll keep talking...

but... it's obvious an artist wants to sell their art, nothing wrong with it. the problem for me comes when this "art" is just made as a way to get money. like, money first and then creativity, that's the problem

anyways, you did measure how good the song was with how much success it would've had
