She used the kind of style for the promo shoot she had for Applause/ARTPOP. Huge possibilty that the clothing she's wearing now were meant for this single. The Rock-ish style. For those who say that " omg 3 years for this cover ", well sorry to break it down to you, but if you were thinking that a Cover is more important than the music itself.. I like her thick little legs, her girthy gams. I like the composition of the photograph. I don't hate the font. But over all, it's a very try-hard single cover. So far the photos she has released to promote Perfect Illusion are cliche interpretations of Alternative Rock imagery. The head banging messy hair, the screamo death grip on the glans of the mic, the fist in the air, the combat boots, the swinging mic. It's corny. It's a caricature of Rock music. It's uninspired and boring. It's been done to death. When she sang jazz she felt compelled to dress like a lounge singer in basic Maxwell gowns because that is how jazz singers present themselves, and now for some reason she feels the need to adopt a redundant Rock Star costume because that is how Rock stars dress. This single and album she's creating is music but also art, it's a form of artistic expression. It seems in previous eras we've looked at her clothes and loved how they fully blend with the music and art she's creating yet because she's not wearing what we want her to wear to this era we're all dismissing it? This change of direction in her career to me is a bigger artistic leap than from her previous albums, taking this more personal, grunge side of her and bringing it out into the forefront of her career is a big artistic statement for her, we normally see this side of her when she performs covers or when she lets loose at concerts, know she's opening it up for the whole world to see. This in itself is an artistic statement, losing the clothes and wigs that made her "Gaga" is the biggest artistic change she's done through out her whole career, she can wear the Mona Lisa on a dress and try and bullsh*t about how it's art but it really isn't, it's merely wearing someone else's art work BUT changing your entire image, stripping it back, working with new producers and creating your brand into the opposite of what it should be especially as a pop star is a huge art piece and exploration of artistic expression.
