DAVID VOGUER 1,956
There are so many threads about dope vocals and I always reply the same thing but it never gets to people so I decided to make a thread about it. DOPE is ironic! Her vocals are like that because she crave drugs not the other way around! It's just like Alejandro on TMB2, not the best video but try to find and listen to the original. It's the same thing! You can hear the irony in her voice! "I can't live without you! I can't breathe without you! Without you I have nothing--yeah right!" They can't scare me, if I scare them first. Luc 4,775
I don't think so. It would be a true reverse reverse reverse warholian expedition In the song she's really trying to convey that she lost it, and she's trying to pick up the pieces. Remember in November 2013 she often talked about her weed usage as an actual addiction in a very negative way. It's very serious for her. There's a clear difference between the sarcastic tone in Alejandro's live performances and the DOPE tone, too.

I mean the first Gypsy live performance made me cry because it was real, raw, emotional, Dope performance during the YT awards didn't make me feel the same thing because it was overacted, and for a reason! They can't scare me, if I scare them first.

It wasn't overacted, she genuinely hated her life and regretted her past decisions. Remember she wanted to quit music and commit suicide back then. She broke down. REALITY 76,361
Her vocals are to represent the pain and the emotion that she went, through. That's pretty evident; however, I feel like that has bled over into her actual singing voice. I think that as her singing voice evolves, she just inherently gains more of those Dope-esque vocals, which I don't perceive as a bad thing, but I'm sure people will disagree with me on that. I mean, just listen to her more recent performances, some of them are her utilizing those vocals, and I don't think she's doing it purposefully. I think that that is now a part of her singing voice. 🦠🧙♀️🥀📸🎉👻🕺🧟💊💖☎️🔪👤🐺🌱🌎

Yes, yes, I know all that, but still I think it goes one step further than that and that's why that song is important... I mean she could've just perform/record it the TIHTY way and it would still be genuine emotional ballad. They can't scare me, if I scare them first. I do not think it's actually sarcastic however.
