Sure Like a Prayer the song is my favourite Madonna song, but the album is not. It just doesn't have that thing that she developed in the following years. Imo Music, Ray Of Light, COADF, Erotica, Bedtime Stories, and even True Blue are better. Dont get me wrong, it's a great album, but I just think it was grossly overrated. There are really only 3 iconic songs on it, if you ask me: Like a Prayer, Cherish, and Express Yourself (and even the album mix of Express Yourself is trash, it had to be remixed for the single release!) People got carried away with the religious controversy + Prince collabo into believing that the music itself was noteworthy, but aside from the 3 singles mentioned above, I don't hear it. It has: Express Yourself, Cherish, and Like A Prayer are all amazing and iconic pop songs, but the rest sort of get lost against those three and much of her other work. That whole feeling of it from buying the album, opening it and it smelling like patchuli...to Pepsi buying her out because the first video was so frowned upon...to the following videos...to the Like A Prayer Tour turning into the Blond Ambition World Tour.
