Cancellation for 'Days of Our Lives'?

Speculation is running rampant that long-running NBC soap opera, 'Days of Our Lives', is being considered for cancellation after it's 52nd season. It is the final soap opera on NBC (and one of only 4 left in the US, period).

Ratings have dropped to an all-time low (and appear to be stuck there) while soaps on other networks achieve much better ratings. Rumor has it, the writers are about to unleash a new "murder mystery" storyline, killing off a main character, in a last ditch effort to boost ratings.

I haven't watched 'Days' regularly in several years, but it has been a central figure in my pop cultural experience from the 80's, 90's, 2000's, and early 2010's. I've watched it literally my entire life. I was RAISED on this show --- everyone in my family watched it (grandmothers, aunts, cousins, etc...). It is a part of my life --- it's one of the only pop culture franchises from my childhood that is still around today. I cannot wrap my head around a world where 'Days' is not on TV!! I would be absolutely heartbroken, but I would understand. The soap genre is dead. And the budget cuts of the last 10 years have really left 'Days' to exist as a shell of its former self. I hate to say this, but I almost want it to be cancelled, because every year that it carries on in it's current dismal state is a disgrace to its iconic legacy.

I've even gone to the Days "fan event" at Universal Studios Hollywood a couple times --- 2013 and 2014! :awesome:

It's been on for way too long. It's like the simpsons, after a while, you run out of ideas and you run out of fans willing to put up with it.

And they've run out of money... At least in the past, when they were short on ideas, they had the budget to do "big" storylines and shoot out of studio in exotic locations, or hire back "big name" actors from past storylines, etc... and they had HUGE sets. Now they have no budget. They only have a handful of sets. They never leave the studio. And they can only afford a small cast (which is really no fun on a soap; you have to have a cast of 30+ characters to keep it interesting daily).

There's actually a reason why mexican soaps are so short, as compared to the longer running American soaps.

Reid if you're looking for new soaps you could always watch ons from China, korea, and Japan. i know some who don't watch other Eaast Asian media who watch teh soaps. Though there is obvious values dissonace (like woman in the kitchen is still an active trope in Asia, where in America it's dead).

I've only watched it once since they killed off Will Horton. :( I miss him and Sonny. They were such a wonderful TV gay couple.
