And how can you say it's not doing that good? It's actually doing really well... Because MR isn't really doing that well. Let me show you why PI had hype + airplay (+radio interviews, negligible) + VEVO exposure + hot tracks exposure MR had album pre-orders + pre-release week hype + VEVO exposure + hot tracks exposure let's say the hype PI got from (social) media for being a new Gaga lead single is equal to the effect pre-orders and pre-release week hype has on MR. That only leaves airplay which makes the difference. PI seventh day: 5,8k sales (with Hot Tracks exposure and airplay) PI ninth day: 2,2k sales (without Hot Tracks exposure, with airplay) this means that (very roughly) airplay and other factors accounted for 2,2k sales and Hot Tracks exposure accounted for 3,6k sales MR seventh day: 3,2k sales (with Hot Tracks exposure) So: PI Hot Tracks effect: 3,6k sales MR Hot Tracks effect: 3,2k sales conclusion: they have similar hit potential. I know it's a very flawed method of calculating this (there's no better way to do it) but it does give an indication. I really don't see how it's doing so well as you all keep repeating to yourselves, in the hope that the era can somehow be saved by an obvious choice that somehow everyone here agrees on yet Interscope and Bobby, people whose jobs it is to manage artists and eras, haven't made that choice. Before anyone brings up the fact that one is a promotional single and the other is an actual single, please remember that the only difference between the two is music video release and airplay. Music video for PI was not released yet and airplay is what I will try to substract from the total sales to get an image of what PI would be selling in the same situation as MR. If MR really had hit potential it would be selling a LOT more. There's no indication yet that it is bound to be a hit like everyone here keeps saying. It's very flawed indeed. PI had hype. And she delivered something different (but pop and dance and more of the same). She release MR as promo while PI was flopping. It had nothing keeping it up aside from hot tracks. Also we can gauge public reaction which has objectively been more positive than for PI. And its not just about saving the era. What's the use of Gaga constantly releasing the same songs (uptempo and dancey) when they're failing to leave an impact? A ballad (a good ballad) can connect to people and it might do well. That's why we want MR as a single. And I'm gonna repeat this: given Gaga's commercial success as of late MR is doing good.

You're ignoring that Million Reasons has been getting much more positive review from critics and the general public and had no pre release hype, plus like you said it is a flawed method of calculating. IMO Million Reasons is a more likable single choice for the general public for a variety for reasons (which I won't go in to) and we can see that in the general public and critics reactions. was NickARTPOP

PI had hype (even though that died down pretty quickly), MR had album pre-orders. It's indeed hard to compare but really, PI wasn't doing well and neither is MR. Using public reaction as an argument is even more flawed as it's two completely different situations (people had low expectations for MR as opposed to high expectations for PI) and it's not something you can really measure. I mean, it's good that you are all so hopeful. I remember I was too, with ARTPOP (song). Then she performed it at a popular show and it went top 500 I think but don't be surprised if MR performs less well than PI in the end when it's actually released as a single. If Interscope truly believed that MR had good hit potential they would've surely sent it to radio already and announced it as second single, like with DWUW. RickMonster98 7,462
Are you serious? MR is just a promo single and it's still selling EVERYWHERE even after more than 1 week. Now there's no hype and no promo at all, but it's still charting good. This basically says it has the potential to become a hit. I totally can see it reaching 2x Platinum in the USA, and good sales WW.
