True, if we compare Gaga as an artist to Britney who's really been "out of the scene" (top charts) for a long time.. But if you just look at plain numbers, the year, other pop girls debuts, it's not THAT bad. Is it underwhelming that Gaga is debuting with 100k? Yes. Is it that much off compared to the industry? No, not really. Should we be depressed? Only if it doesn't have longevity or success on other platforms (which we still don't know).
ViviLittleM 3
Time to call Tony to record Cheek To Cheek's sequel out October 2016.
Arturo 40,746
Yeah its debut is tragic. Let's focus on it at least getting to T10 like any other song has to do. Start from the ground up.
GagaMyBlood95 9,915
Honestly, at this point, I wouldn't release the album anytime soon. I would push PI as much as I can. do all the promo, spend all the coins, and then release the second single right when PI starts dying on radio.. Then, let second single pick up a little bit, hopefully the gp likes it, and then release the album when you have two solid, well known songs to support it.. A Stan Was Born 670
Bad Romance did 142k in 2009. And we know how that story ends lol. I think people are over stressing debut numbers
OBEY 57,109
Meanwhile gaga is eating a hot dog on New York streets. She could at least record a sex tape with a human hot-dog and Perfect Illusion playing on it to get that promo/streams

But those people are from non-fan audience. They may not be even music fans - they are just people who listen to music on the occasions they find suitable (on the way to college/work, in the sub, while making love or jogging, etc.). They may not be reading Billboard or Pitchfork or other music outlets. They have timelines of their friends on Facebook and twitter and instagram. How are they supposed to know the song is out at all if they are not as obsessed wih the music industry as we are?

That's where the promo becomes key. And, to be fair, the Spotify rollout was quite impeccable. The track got a banner, her picture was used as the cover of a massive playlist. It was added to all popular playlists that have millions of listeners subscribed to them, the track was #1 in new releases and also there was even an audio advertisement with Gaga's voice that would come on during the average listeners music playing time. The promo is there, the potential for awareness is there, we just need to see the results now. Signature loading… 👹🖤

I thought that Spotify is a lot less centralized in its consuming patterns though - but I am not very knowledgable of her promo campaign with Spotify because there's no Spotify in where I live Yes, I agree that promo is the key now. I suppose that if Perfect Illusion is welcomed by the radio, and if it eventually charts in the TOP 15 on the Radio songs or at least on the TOP 40 then the release of the music video might actually push the track into the TOP 10 on Billboard Hot 100. We as fans can only help by streaming the song and watch the radio reaction; so far the spins and the number of times being added to radio stations promised some bright future for the track
Americano 31,061
31 minutes ago, Stef said: Exactly. Like. It is tragic and, like I said a few days ago, there ain't no way of dressing this up, its just a plain tragic debut. (Even though a debut can and probably will be built on and in a few weeks she may very well outsell her debut week, who knows. But its Britney 2016 numbers, and that IS tragic) Yup. Britney, who doesn't sing live or promote her music and hasn't had a radio hit since 2011, is selling the same. I think PI is doing well on radio and i recognize it's still on a pretty strong path to become a hit for Gaga. But it's debut is embarrassingly bad and her strategy around the first week can definitely be criticized without being a rush to judgement.
