If Brit wanted to she could retire and even her kids would never have to work a day in their lives. Y'all underestimate how much money touring and fragrances make.

She continues to be a pop star because music and dancing are her passions.

I see it like this...

Britney grew up as a "stage kid" with a passion for dance and pop music performance. She looks up to "the greats" as her inspiration (Madonna, Janet, etc...). I remember back in 2001-02 when Rolling Stone ran a cover story on her, she recalled the first time she ever saw Janet Jackson's "If" video and it became her inspiration for the rest of her career. As I've said before, "If" was a landmark single for Janet... it was by no means her biggest hit, but her die hard fans recognize it as possibly the greatest single "moment" of her career. So for Britney to point to this as her inspiration speaks volumes about the passion she once had for performance.

And she achieved it --- and WAY beyond!

But, she has mental health issues (no different than 1 out of 4 Americans) and when celebrity and all the constant pressure that comes with it got the best of her, the public completely turned their back on her and began to treat her as some wild animal who they delighted in watching self-destruct.

Once she got her footing again and focused her life on the things that really matter (family, mental/emotional stability, her children, her finances, etc...), the passion for chasing "pop fame" really had no place in her life any more. I think she still continues to perform simply as it is her "identity" and it makes zillions of dollars for her family, and she wants to ensure her kids are taken care of financially for life. And I think she wants to be a good example for them, showing them that you can overcome your demons.

But I absolutely think her "heart" isn't in the performance any more. And how could it be? Once you have seen such an ugly side of society and felt the general public delighting in your hardest times, out of sheer self-preservation, I'm sure she had to grow beyond "caring" about what the public thinks. I don't think any sane person could still have the "fire" that she had in the beginning when she was young and innocent.

As a fan, I miss that passion. But as a human, I respect her for keeping a healthy perspective on it all (and "distance" herself from her fame and her craft), while still being able to maintain her career and make millions of dollars doing it.

Wow... heavy thoughts in that last post. Just reflecting on that whole time, and how all of us just assumed that Britney was surely going to die in 2007-08.... makes me so incredibly grateful that she was able to overcome it all and that she is here today and thriving. And has been able to sustain healthy living for 8 years, while still front and center in the spotlight. It's truly the greatest American "comeback" story of all time.

She always seems like she's not there in the present, her mind is somewhere else. Its all the drugs/partying she did that affected her. Don't get me wrong I love Britney but she's not the same she used to be, both in person and onstage. My two cents :classy:

but her instagram videos and pics of her and her with her kids are so cute and genuine and real I love it. Like this one :)

Well, they don't call her Robotney for nothing :lana:

tbh her breakdown broke her. Yes she recovered yadda yadda yadda but she hasn't been the same person since, and probably never will. If you look up her interviews from any album pre-Blackout and compare it to a present one... yikes. It's like Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

So I think it's that, plus the fact that she'd rather be a mother that make her not give any ****s. But the theory the Little Britneys cooked up to explain her present day attitude, that her family is exploiting her, is bullshit imo

OMG AT ALL THIS

I never never never NEVER saw it like that. But yeah I totally agree.

I remember going to Perez Hilton (:interestinga:) a lot during those couple of years, and every time the page was loading I was like "okay, today i'm going to read that Britney died". I was SO scared for her.

And she may be the way she is nowadays, but the way she came back is impressive and doesn't remotely get enough credit for it.

I haven't loved Britney more since Circus and Blackout days. I'm happy. This album has made me want to go to Vegas. I haven't wanted to see her live since Circus, which I did. I loved her performance. It has become my favorite. I can't stop playing the remix and love when they play the VMA version in the car. She's spectacular. Her encore is immaculate. She's never been better. Glory.

She only loves her boys.

I do think she enjoys the process of making music tho, just not the promo, red carpets, performing, etc

She's never done much for me as an artist but, judging from interviews and promotion for Glory, she looks happier and more invested than she has in years.

SHe needs a music career to sell our her tours and fragrances though,

that doesn't automatically deem you 'passionate'.

Would you say Beyonce is still young and innocent? I believe Beyonce has witnessed what Britney had witnessed before and yet Beyonce chose to still deliver her best and stick close to her artistic integrity.

I don't even like Beyonce as much as I like Britney actually.

Wait, what made you guys think she was going to die? Was she suicidal or what?

I don't think Beyonce has come even one millimeter close to what Britney has experienced, at least in terms of being tabloid fodder. For the most part, the only tabloid headlines selling about Beyonce are ones that she has deliberately created (and good for her for creating that control around her persona). Whereas Britney has been subjected to thousands more that were not of her own choosing (even if they were a product of her own behavior). Point is, I don't think Beyonce has suffered from the same mental illnesses that Britney has. While Britney has "caused" many of her own issues, I think she did most of them unwittingly.

Beyonce does not have one single moment in her life where she can recall looking into the sky and seeing the CNN helicopter filming above her house as she is carted away on a stretcher, while her two infant children lay inside.
