So I, like many other music fans, wrote Halsey off as a copy-cat poser. This was based on her ripping off Lana Del Rey on multiple songs and basically putting the top alternative bands at the time (Arctic Monkeys & The 1975) into a blender and taking the SJW Tumblr queen character to a cringey level. Plus the fact that she tried to hide her 1D stan days.. and "The Haylor Song" turned me off to her completely. My first listens of Badlands actually made me laugh because it seemed so try-hard and fake.

After spending a lot more time with her album, I've come to love some songs like Hold Me Down, Control, and Drive. Now I've been watching more interviews of her and warming up to her as a performer. Whether or not she's being as authentic as she says she is, I'm kind of excited to see where she's gonna take her career from here. I won't forgive her for ripping off Lana or calling herself a "tastemaker" instead of a Tumblr-famous One Direction stan, but I'm not as annoyed by her as before.

How do you guys feel about her now? Does she deserve the level of success she's reached? (selling out MSG?) Are you excited for her next album? or does she still rub you the wrong way?

Please no bullying or stupid comments like "she's a rat" or anything like that. Just curious if anyone else is changing their mind about her.

I really like her. I'm still getting some mileage out of Badlands and Closer is my current jam outside of Britney. I never really paid attention to her outside of her music, so what she does personally that bothers others has never really been on my radar

Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

I cant forget that New Americana aka National anthem mess :neyde:

we will see, she has a strong competition like Lanas and Lordes new album coming soon + Melanie so we will se how she will go against that cuz lets be honest they all have simillar sound.

If she somehow manages to outshine all of them then  I will keep my eyes on her, but lets be honest Lanas album is rumoured to be more pop oriented and Lorde is working on her second album so carefully and so long it cant be a flop, so Halsey cant outshine them in any way but as I said, we will see. + she doesnt have that consistant image like these 3, she is constantly changing her hairstyle and doesnt have a theme which is not a good thing if you are debut singer because GP cant remember you.

love her songs

but feels she is a bit too much

I don't find her fake, just that she seems to talk "in your face" when she's been interviewed

feels like she's insecure or something, trying too hard to be a strong independent woman when she already is

IDK it's hard to describe

like we know you are cool, you don't have to constantly remind us that you are cool

I think that's why New Americana is controversial and received mixed reviews

but Colors and Roman Holiday is so good and slayed me :golfclap:

Cause once you let it go you better know it's gone

This, and that interview when she said she had a miscarirage on a stage when she was performing? That was a weird and attention seeking to say in newspapers? Why? Im so strong that I can even go through that? Sad tbh

I guess the interviewer had done an article about miscarriage or something along those lines so she felt obligated to tell him. I agree that her speaking about all of her personal issues comes across as attention seeking/playing victim/trying to gain sympathy but she says she speaks about these things because she doesn't feel like she should be ashamed or afraid to. Idk it's a gray area for me.

LanasNerfGun

I recall an interview she did in which she talks about something very painful and personal.  While on tour, she got pregnant and one day woke up bloodied and found out she had miscarried.  She somehow found the strength to pull through and film a bunch of VEVO performances that day.  That girl's one tough cookie and really does love her supporters.  As for her music, I'll admit I've bopped to Badlands on more than one occasion.
