Like you I'm still very skeptical. His first film "Remember Me" was an original screenplay and critics pointed out his script as a low point, which worries me. Reveal hidden contents (from Wiki) The film currently holds a "Rotten" rating of 27% based on 108 reviews on the film review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The site's consensus states, "Its leads are likeable, but Remember Me suffers from an overly maudlin script and a borderline offensive final twist." Andrea Gronvall gave a similar assessment in The Chicago Reader, writing "Allen Coulter directed this morose and sluggish drama, which gets more mileage from Pattinson's anguished profile than from Will Fetters's thunderously overwritten screenplay." Lisa Schwarzbaum of Entertainment Weekly gave the film a D+, calling it a "shameless contraption of ridiculously sad things befalling attractive people." Schwarzbaum was also critical of Pattinson's acting and the script. Praying that his collab with Bradley Cooper stops ASIB from turning into a sappy Sparks-esque romantic drama As much as I want this version to go places the previous three versions hadn't gone, I have a feeling it will play it safe. Bradley Cooper doesn't strike me as a risk-taker for some reason. Damn. I wish Gaga was in better hands But then again, she's a first-time leading actress (for movies at least). I would imagine the more experienced directors/writers might not be willing to take the risk. My dream adaptation would have, I don't know, Tom Hooper as director (he did The King's Speech, Les Mis, and The Danish Girl) and Ralph Fiennes or Clive Owen as the lead (who could both pull off the gorgeous-but-unlikeable-asshole role). Yes Ralph Fiennes and Clive Owen would be perfect! I could definitely see the both of them pulling off being a bitter alcoholic that's also simultaneously sexy and kind of scary. I think I'd love to see this be a visually strong movie. I feel like if a movie has a script that's a bit on the weak side, the visuals can almost of redeem it in a way - like Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette was tepidly received at first, but it's an undeniably beautifully made film, same for The Neon Demon (ludicrous and campy plot, but lovely to look at). Hopefully Bradley at least has an eye for good aesthetics. Speaking of visually beautiful films, much like Perfect Blue, this iteration of the movie could have so much to say about fame, female celebrities, and the pressures put on them due to the way society views women. I think my dream screenwriter for this would be Jane Campion, though that would probably be too arty, and doesn't exactly scream "wide audience." Ran out of likes, but yes, totally agree A part of me is hoping Gaga convinces Bradley to enlist Tom Ford and whatever production design/art direction team he used for A Single Man. That movie was gorgeous

monsterdino 31,855
I think they will drag Gaga's performance too and if the movie "is not good" I don't think she will win Best Original Song either

Dorothy Gale 7,575
If the visuals and music are outstanding I think it will make up for average or below average writing.

Music can definitely save this movie. Case in point: "The Bodyguard". The movie got 34% on Rotten Tomatoes (critics called it "cheesy" and "melodramatic"), but Whitney's soundtrack ended up becoming one of the best selling albums of all time (and THE best selling movie soundtrack of all time) Of course, I don't know if any soundtrack in the streaming/Spotify/Tidal/whatever-y'all-use era can come close to that but a gay can dream
