Why did Gaga hold back on the release date?

Is to avoid clarity on precision so that hackers wouldn't be able to gauge how close the release date is to us?

What are your theories on this?

Also why is it that singers always release their singles on Fridays? Does it maximise the first week chart and sales success of the song?

Friday is the start of the tracking week for streaming and sales chart.

Friday is the beginning of the tracking week, so yeah if you release then you get 7 days of sales.

idk bc if she's surprising at the VMA's, then she might not announce it at all.

Friday releases are because the weekly music charts around the world normally start recording sales Friday to Thursday. She's probably being vague about precise release date because of what happened with Applause, kinda hoping she's tricking us and it drops on 26th and she opens the VMAs 😂 I can dream...

because she doesn't want someone to release a new single on that day too, like Katy Perry did it with "Roar" on the release date of "Applause" !

Other than what the others already pointed out, it's also a way to get more press. Just the announcement gets people talking, but now when the actual release date is revealed she will be talked about by everyone again. Releasing inormation little by little in this way makes sure she is on people's minds longer and the longer people focus on her, the more the news spread, they don't forget about her.

So Katy doesn't sabotage her :madge:

By sabotage you mean outsell? The fear :laughga:

OT: More than likely it's because it can still be a 'surprise' and would allow room for any error.

I think that september thing is just a trick. I have a feeling that we'll hear the song much sooner... but anyway, september isn't that far away so I don't mind.

I don't think rise was the fastest song to become the most anticipated one of the year. Gaga is on top of the world and all the people talking about her, she's got all the promo she needs

So katy will finally be outselled by Gaga's new single and the world will finally recognize Gaga's talent because no one will buy katy's single cuz no one will know when it comes out (in 2013 everybody knew it only cuz the same day Gaga was releasing Applause as we all know) :neyde:

Seriously: I think that, because of the possibility of a premature leak, she wants to avoid a "rushed" release, and by not telling the date, at any moment she could release it, and it could be the initial date; in other words, we don't know the date, every date could be likely, so when she finally releases it we (and the GP) won't talk of a "rushed" release or so

What has Katy Perry got to do with it? Has she revealed that she's releasing in August or something?

Yeah, maybe because of hackers, or about having a flexibility when to release, or maybe they really don't have a set date yet:lolga:

And also why y'all always afraid of Katy?? If the music is good, people will buy it (or should I say, If the promotion is good, people will buy :diane:)
