hELXIG 43,024
Okay so I went on a huge tangent and expelled some of my thoughts about the ARPOP era. And I think everyone needs to read this and remember what REALLY happened. Please comment below if there's anything I got wrong or need to add Keeping in mind that is has been 3 years since that era, and I had previously let alllll of this go, until another thread brought it all back up again! Happy reminiscing! Here is my rough timeline of where and why it all went awry: Pre album mess: Gaga breaks hip, has to cancel shows on fans, goes through major depression, has to stop smoking tonnes of weed which she was using to deal with emotions, learns while in hospital just how many people in her life don't care about her and just want her because of her fame and money, people don't visit her or call her in hospital, loses a bunch of friends, has to learn how to walk again (from the girls who started with Just Dance and who is known for dancing), Gaga wrote an album. Record label didn't like the album. They re-negotiated. Gaga was pissed that they didn't like what she'd done, and she got rebellious. She reconstructed the album, cutting some songs and adding others. She tried to make an album that was a f-you to the label, that showed off her many different writing styles and talents, experimenting with different genres in one album. (An example being I Wanna Be With U. Which the label saw as a money-making ballad which she could use to exploit the fans, and their love for her. She hated the idea, so changed it to Dope. Quote: "You wan't a ballad, I'll give you a f-ucking ballad". Made it about her struggles with drugs and alcohol.) She had to put a pop-twist on the album to get it released. Hence, ARTPOP as we know it was born. (sidenote: Gaga seems to have wanted to release the original ARTPOP songs, because she was proud of them and didn't want to cut them or reconstruct the album to suit the label. She wanted to do a commercial album, and release the rest as an experimental album. This didn't happen, and I think we can all assume who stopped it from happening. She's obviously moved on now, 3 years later. Hence the "ARTPOP Act II betrayl") Ininital promo was great, new gaga, all clean and pure. Applause is confirmed as first single. She was rumoured to not want Applause as first single, label made her do it. Applause leaked and was released early (this is where it all went downhill). Applause clashed with Roar. Huge media frenzy. GAGA VS KATY. Roar won. Media continued to bully Gaga. Lead single for new era has now been tainted. Not a good start. Next single was supposed to be Venus. This is what Gaga wanted, and the fans had voted for it too. She wanted to show off her own writing and producing, and she believed in the song. Steven Klein and Ruth Hogben were brought on board. However, DWUW, released as a promo single, surprisingly peaked very high in the charts. Record label made her change the single from Venus to DWUW last minute. Venus video (already conceptualised and ready to go) was scrapped. It has now been months since the lead single came out, which didn't do well, very important that the next single does well. However, due to controversy surrounding R Kelly (which came back up at the wrong time) and Terry Richardson, and possibly because Gaga didn't like the final result of the video, it was also scrapped. It was rumoured the label didn't like the video either, and didn't want the controversy surrounding those men. Somewhere around here her manager leaves her. Many think it's because she wasn't as successful anymore, and that he saw her as a 'problem' or 'lost investment'. It has now been many more months since her lead single, sales have declined and all hope seems lost. The GP worldwide have largely forgotten Applause, and even that she's come back at all. It's been years since BTW and they've only really heard one song which was beaten out by it's competition, and was surrounded by mess. Record label won't give her any support for releasing another single. Writes off the era as over. Pushes her to move on. Worldwide tour is underway. Due to lack of promo, tour isn't selling very well. Album hasn't matched success of BTW and she is constantly reminded of this. She has no manager. At this point many fans have turned their backs on her too. Accusing her of lying about making music videos for every song, and about the app (which has counted down twice and nothing happened. Obviously wasn't support and funded. Too much time has passed since the album release). A lot of the fake fans turned their backs on her because she wasn't successful anymore, and they only wanted to stan for someone who ruled the pop-world. She tried to make her own comeback all on her own. She isn't letting ARTPOP go down without a fight. She will die by ARTPOP's side. She invests hundreds of thousands-millions of her own dollars into making the G.U.Y. video. She conceptualises and directs it all herself. She gathers friends to help her out. She does a PSA regarding water usage so that she's allowed to fill the pool at Hearst Castle. Pulling out all the stops to have an amazing set. She creates a medley of some of the songs on ARTPOP to compensate for not making a music video for every song. Song and music video aren't received well by GP or fans. People criticise her of trying too hard, being inauthentic, of the video being messy, of trying to achieve too much at once, etc. etc. Era has officially died. Gaga is depressed as hell. She's lost friends, fans, management. Her latest creation that she tried SO HARD to keep alive has died. She's labelled constantly as a flop. She's constantly told her career is over. She's received no support from her record label the whole time as they wrote the era off long ago. Everything she's attempted has not succeeded. Even though she's put in her best effort all the time and fought hard, she hasn't been successful. Thankfully amidst all the chaos (yes, I used that word lol) the older, musical legends had her back, supported her, and reminded her that they've all been through that, and managed to come back stronger. Her main support system being Tony Bennett. Which is why C2C and his friendship are so important to her. Never forget this: Maybe if she didn't have Tony and C2C to revitalise her spirits during this tough time, we wouldn't her HER any more. Probably why she's to into her 'jazz vocals' now that you all hate. A couple of interview snippets where she speaks about this (which I think are very important that everyone who calls themselves a fans, NEEDS to to see): Spoiler Billboard interview: “At the end of 2014, my stylist asked, ‘Do you even want to be a pop star anymore?’ I looked at him and I go, ‘You know, if I could just stop this train right now, today, I would. I just can’t. [But] I need to get off now because I’m going to die.’ When you’re going so fast you don’t feel safe anymore, you feel like you’re being slapped around and you can’t think straight. But then I felt hands lifting me. It was like everybody came together to try and put a star back in the sky, and they weren’t going to let me down.” And this iconic interview. In which she speaks about the industry, and wanting to quit music all together. Please, put aside an hour and watch it one day. It's very good, very important, and very eye opening. Thanks for reading, and I hope if you weren't aware of all of this, you now have a slightly more clear understand of the ARPOP era! I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin. hELXIG 43,024
I'm just hoping that people are able to see that it wasn't all Gaga's fault. That she doesn't just go around breaking promises and lying. That anything that was her fault, was due to her mindset at the time coping with the troubles in her life. Also, now can you all understand why she has kept the LG5 era all a secret? She doesn't want a repeat with 'broken promises' and 'betrayls', being labelled a liar. I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
joannesrats 26
Very well put. I share a lot of these thoughts, and it's so sad to see someone that I truly do care about go through what she has.

She's gone through absolute hell. I lost one friend and it hurt me and my life. And she went through ALL of this, and is still here making music. I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin. I don't think would live if she wasn't making music or art, but I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't release anything. Like she said in that V Magazine video, if she didn't have the money to support herself she'd be on drugs and making art out of a box because that's who she is. I see a lot of my mother in her, both Italian and Catholic women who got dealt a short hand. It's not fair to them and it's not fair to Gaga how the fanbase has been so hostile towards her. Yeah she even said during the SXSW keynote speech that I linked, that she asked herself "do I even want to make music any more on a commercial level?" and that she'd be happier just making music for her and her friends to enjoy. She's said multiple times she almost quit putting out music, and that she hates seeing it go into the numbers machine. Which is why I don't see her aiming for a big pop hit with LG5. Just making music she loves, regardless of sales and figures. No it's not fair. It's very sad that some people blame her for everything! She's tried really hard for us and for herself. She'll win in the end though! She's so strong. I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Only love and support facilitate creativity, anything else and an artist will shutdown.

Decodekid 28,258
This women has been through so much, I don't even know how she can handle all that, she's so strong and still is here with us. ❤️ Long Live Gretchen
GagaXCupcakke 3,818
Gaga did feel bad for the fans too during all of this. She tried making us feel better by leaking the Burqa demo and Brooklyn Nights. I really think she leaked Brooklyn Nights to appease all the fans disappointed about the ARTPOP app countdown mess. Yuuri 21,636
Weird I thought G.U.Y.'s video was well received. Plus I think you forgot the part where she asked her fans to vote for the second single then her label stepped in and picked DWUW.
